Agree completely. There are plenty of other sites on getting to the "next level" but this is really the only one I have found that focuses on the joy of just sitting around and making music, entertaining yourself and friends. That's why I joined Target. I would hate to see the site get watered down. Love the tools idea. Keep up the good work Neil! Now if only he would teach a course on how to sing and play at the same time! Kind of like patting your head and rubbing your stomach to me!. Also would help if Neil included the time signature and beats per minute on the song lessons. Perhaps a rythm note also. I sometimes forget when I have been away from a song and need to refresh my memory with the video - not necesisarily a bad thing!
Who cares about Karma points! Just play guitar.

If this were the perfect site ???

A good point about rhythm. I am guessing but I think Neil uses the convert to PDF function from Guitar Pro, which if you haven't noticed includes the rhythm underneath the tab lines. I am not sure if he includes this everytime as it is a function on GuitarPro which can be turned on or off. Obviously on all the time is best. Leads me to think a section on the actual software Neil uses to create tabs and an explanation of how to read them. This may be occurring in the groups Bear and I have started but a separate lesson might help those who don't use the groups. Also to encourage reading standard notation this can be switched on or off in Guitar Pro, on is best before converting to PDF IMHO. I would like to see a split screen option or at least
a fret hand zoom option.
I do not like the idea of adding instructors. I was with Jam play for one month
and they must have 20 instructors. Some good and some bad. Each had their own
way of explaining things and it drove me crazy. On the other hand, Neil can only crank
out so much in a month. The answer, clone 4 or 5 more Neil's to handle the extra
load!!!

I've seen an online player that does this, but the videos were fairly low resolution and didn't look good in slo-mo.map4242 wrote:I'm all in for that,i know thers's a progamma to slow down but not the pitch, it can be done, but you must capture the vid........... a man called Mike Herberts sales it..... 6-string video .comThe ability to play the lesson videos in slo-mo with sound at correct pitch.
The ability to loop sections of the videos.
I think TG's high res videos would do this well compared to other sites that have attempted it.
The TABs with the lessons should be in a format for software like Guitar Pro to open and play as well as the PDFs. This would also provide more "play along" practice at various tempos as has been recently discussed.

I don't think there is a need for any extra instructors.
The reason I joined this site was Neil's teaching style and skills. I know this is the same for other members. I think adding more instructors would dilute the site.
The exception to this would be if the instructor was an expert in a certain style.
Updated content is coming in fast and would keep most members more than busy.
I don't see the need for any great extensions to the community side. There already seem to be multiple places to add or find information, which can be a bit confusing.

Just checked out your Master Menu. Really like the color indicators
for difficulty levels. Noted under Guitar Lessons 101 the entries
are a mixture of lesson types. For ease of navigation and structure
I'd recommend you create 2 sub-groups, Techniques and
Theory. This will help draw the eye to the subjects.

Quite a thread! Brainstorming for TG. Belay there Pirates!
My input so far:
"Online tools, i.e. the TG Metronome, TG Tuner, TG Chord generator"
Yes PLEASE!
Well said Robert (Karma to you for that posting
): "The biggest mistake I think this site could make is to lose sight of the fact that Neil Hogan is Totally Guitars. Water him down and you water the site down. IMHO."
The reason I'm here is Neil. I don't really want an assistant coach. If it becomes necessary then that person must follow all of Neil's ideals and philosophy but will also need room to be himself (or his will not be a strong enough personality for this role). I'll accept a clone sometimes!
I was wondering what the hell Karma was at first but now I like the chance to stroke or applaud my guitar buddies for things well said. Keep it! It's a basic psychological need to be able to stroke friends and receive strokes in return, smooths communication. Don't underestimate it.
Anything that increase the interactivity of TG is a plus.

Don't know if anyone else would like this, but I thought it was kind of a cool little effect. Check out this youtube clip for "Hey There Delilah"
Notice the top left hand corner of the video. It has TAB there to help out with the lesson. Kind of neat, and it does not get in the way of the video itself.....

I would vote no as well for additional instructors. However, it sounds like Neil has met a few top notch musicians and recording artists over the years, so maybe having a "GUEST" appearance by one of those folks would be a good idea. Maybe get some inside info on how they came up with a particular riff or how they were inspired to write a certain tune. I love the behind the music type stuff and what a bonus it would be for us TG members to kind of have a personal sitdown with an artist that we would never be able to do otherwise. Maybe we could ask a few questions as well.
