TWO WORDS. and it rhymes with: Lacey Zapman. Lol!
Okay I am resisting my desire to go on another obsessive rant about how much I love Tracy Chapman.
However, I am contented with Vanessa's extraordinary cover of Gimme One Reason...I still think she has at least several songs that would make real good lessons...
Great Post Here Dennis...There are too many excellent female candidates to count.
But are just a few more:
b.t.w. I will second Ani Di Franco, Maybelle Carter, & Nancy Wilson any day of the week.. and then twice on Sunday!
-The first vid, is one of many brilliant Tori Amos songs I could have put up. Almost any of her songs would make
brilliant guitar lessons and would translate quite well to quitar...
-The second video is from the iconic Dolly Parton. Her song Jolene has held up as classic. (And that is one tasty riff!)The third vid, also of Dolly...shows her making Collective Soul's shine sound better than ever before.
(Points to Dolly for hearing the bluegrass melody underneath the post grunge sludge!!)

Sadly I think a lot of people just think of her as some iconic, yet blonde-bimbo that sung a bunch of campy songs in the early eighties. I am sure the movie/song: "Nine to Five" didn't do her any real favors lol!...insofar as joining the great pantheon of woman songwriters. Her credibility with the roots country crowd was probably a bit tarnished by some of that stuff...
But I like Dolly a lot! And I like her mainly because I think she is a good human being and a very intelligent lady.
Alright! very COOL Scott! Glad to hear you're a Dolly fan. I believe you are absolutely correct about her Scott. Wonderful songwriter! Most of her early playing and writing is dyed in the wool, traditional bluegrass. It seems she has revisited her roots in recent years. ( I like her bluegrass version of Stairway...sounds cool!)Hey Cori,
I thought later about adding Dolly Parton simply because she has written hundreds of songs - many people may not be aware of this but she plays a lot of guitar and has written a ton of songs.

Nine to Five - I don't know about that hurting her - she produced the broadway version in 2009 with all new songs she wrote. She is still writing new hits and still touring today. She loves what she does and I bet most older country fans don't think any less of her for the commercial success she has had - she has worked hard for all of it. I know I like her a lot just as a human being just as you do.

Yeah I like Dolly a lot too. I am in no way a country fan per se (nothing wrong with country and bluegrass, I just have always been more of a rock-n-roll fan for the most part) but I especially like her because she is simply not a phony. She shoots straight from the hip and what you see in her public personna is exactly the way she is outside of that.dsmarion wrote:Alright! very COOL Scott! Glad to hear you're a Dolly fan. Can you believe the pipes on that woman after all these years. Good Golly!!!
Oh gosh, is it really??! 16??
Well I couldn't agree with you more Dennis!
For me, I'd definitely would lóve to see some stuff by Nancy Wilson (check out the 'Live at McCabes Guitarshop'-soloalbum) and/or Heart. She is such a great guitarplayer and a great singer as wel. She was the one who inspired me (10 years ago or so) to become a better guitarplayer again!
I particularly lóve her version of 'Kathy's song' (unfortunately no youtube-video, well audio-video, of that one in my country, so I can't add it, but maybe it's in your country) and the acoustic version of 'Alone' (Heart) would be great of course :cheer: :
Then again, I wouldn't be able to sing it....Nancy maybe, but Ann??!!! :S
But yeah Dennis, I'm definitely with you on this one!
