Max - that's a really cool graphic, very cool. And your guitar is just INCREDIBLE, definitely a work of art and Master craftsmanship. I took a wood working class at community college one year. It was great fun. I made a small bookcase. I discovered however that woodworking is not very compatible with living in an apartment, you really need a shed and access to lots of quality tools. Sue once told me about a ukulele making course which I'd LOVE to do...SHED. When I retire to a nice quite coastal town, I'd love to be painting, making ukuleles, making music and playing with my dog - now that sounds like a cool way to spend the day.

I'm just awestruck by the idea that you made that beautiful instrument Max, amazing.

Your absolutely right about needing the right kind of space to do woodworking, and if you think GAS is a problem, you'll be amazed at how many different tools you need to make each step of the build a little easier.

Hey Max,

I really understand TAS (tools acquisition syndrome). I visit the hardware store way too often as it is, mostly for gardening gear at the moment, my tool box is already too heavy and overflowing.

A friend of mine's Dad restores old cars. He has a heap of specialised tools, and he often has to make his own to get the job done. Pretty amazing.

I'm guessing you have a pretty cool workshop given you're able to build beauties like the guitar you've shown us. Niiiiiice.

It's great that your guitar makes you want to play more. That's the best sign there is that it sounds special and is generally great to play.

I rarely use recipes either. so sometimes it really is an experiment.

Funny that you're watching Aussie Master Chef. It's extremely popular here. I guess it's payback since Aussies are watching a version of The Voice.

But seriously, I've been researching guitar building over the last year, so I have a well-informed respect for what you've accomplished here.
Another TGer with lots of patience ... I guess learning guitar means either having patience or developing it along the way.

Okay, gonna carefully step back into this forum area. I'm primarily a visual artist and, in my mid 50s, finally gave myself permission to make art my life and my living. I'm a lot poorer monetarily now, but much, much richer in coin you can't spend.

I'm also very proud of my work and, as any artist, I leap at chances to show it off in front of new audiences. My posts here won't be any kind of marketing pitch, just sharing something I love with potential friends, and I will strive to keep the frequency to a non-obnoxious level. :side:

I'm also going to include some backstory as a rule, because to me art always comes with a story.

For this piece, my creative mentor tossed me a challenge: show me "Pretzel Logic." I made a point to avoid the obvious Steely Dan link and took my vision into fantasy land (where I love to be):



I also enjoy coming up with a caption for my stuff; in this case it's "Sometimes 'straight thinking' can't get you there."

Okay, this share's gonna be an animated commercial, but it's not a marketing pitch. It was just killer fun to make and the client is a friend (and my next door neighbor) and I get a kick out of sharing it.

Backstory: he owns and operates a coffee roasting company, mainly selling wholesale but also has a popular coffee shop in the front of the building. He has a pair of gargoyle statues, one on his front porch and one in the shop. He jokes they're his security staff.

Well, last year his marketing consultant came out with an edgy, hipster-oriented "Wake the Hell Up" ad campaign. While sipping bourbon and swapping lies on his front porch I looked at the gargoyle and that cartoon light bulb appeared over my head. This was the result. Note I made no money from this, I created it for him as a gift to a friend.
