I be knowin' it a bit late but today be International Talk Like A Pirate Day. With all the Jolly Roger hoistin' what goes on here abouts, I figgered today be a banner day on board. So ship to, belay the mainmast, heave around, and get this bucket underway.

Ahoy there, Brethren of the Coast and ye landlubbers. Captain Neil has passed down liberty call; all hands lay below and muster on the mess decks. Only binnacle list be forgiven all others found gundecking will be feeding the fish. The lesson for evening be Yellow Submarine.

"Fifteen men on the dead man's chest--
...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!
Drink and the devil had done for the rest--
...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!"

Here are the lyrics I wrote based upon a story I told my nephew about where rum comes from. I told him they put pirate's bodies in oak cask added sea water and fermented it.

Pirate’s Rum © 2008 R. Steffen

Listen to a story, not many know
Take a sip of your drink now, let the rum flow
They sailed the Caribbean, brought fear to young and old
So hoist the Jolly Roger, skull & cross bones and gold

They put all their old bodies in casks made of Oak
Pour in some sea water and ferment

If you’re brave enough to sail, the seas of long ago
You might see their flag flyin’ and then you would know
Your life was in danger, your treasure is lost
They took all they found there, your life was the cost

They put all their old bodies in casks made of Oak
Pour in some sea water and ferment

You know pirates die to now, but their lives not a waste
You will appreciate it, if for rum you’ve a taste
Some make Pina Coladas, some mix it with Coke
Some think I am crazy and this is all a joke

They put all their old bodies in casks made of Oak
Pour in some sea waterrrr and ferment
