Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,
"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,
"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said,
"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Probably the most misquoted set of song lyrics I have ever heard comes from Manfred Mann's cover of Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light".
The lyrics really say: "Reved up like a duece, another runner in the night."
But the misquote sounds an awful lot like a female hygiene product.......:woohoo:

This is interesting as my kids showed me a video of different clips where the words from english songs were sounding like french words. To make sure it sounded closer there is text coming out at the same time giving the french words (not meaning the same thing at all of course). So when you read the words the illusion is perfect. Pretty funny and I am sure it can be done in any other languages.

And by the way, a "misheard lyric" is actually called a "mondegreen".

I'm with you on that one Tony. I hate admit it, but it was only in the last few years I learned that Manfred Mann was singing, "Blinded by the light. revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night". It didn't make any sense, but I thought the lyric was "Blinded by the light, dressed up like a douche, another runner in the night" :laugh:Music Junkie wrote:Is THAT what they are saying!? I LOVED the Pearl Jam Video... You know I never understood the lyrics until now.
But in all seriousness this made me wonder what the lyrics really say. I found a few unofficial versions but none of them seemed right so I went to my old standby, Wikipedia, and here is what they have to say. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Ledbetter It was a really interesting read for those so inclined.
