Time for me to do this now I think.

Ok, I graduated from University of Humberside, its is Hull in 1995 with a B.S (Hons) in Administrative Management. Came back to my home town of Sunderland and quickly found a job working in the customer service department for the largest telecoms provider in the UK. What was supposed to be a 3 month contract ended up being 9 years with the company! I left the company due to illness.

Since then I've had a couple of short term contracts with companies in the banking and energy sectors- customer service jobs again.

I also spent some time working for the prison service. I worked with young offenders, which was an eye opener, and for 6 months I escorted contractors and visitors around a large prison in the north east, I really enjoyed that, I was outside all day, walking all over, many miles every day, I was so fit at the end of the summer, and had the best tan I've ever had.

I left that job because my round trip to and from work was 2 hours a day minimum, that and I found a better paying job closer to home- which unfortunately fell throu the day before I was due to start it.

Since then I've continued to work in customer services until my health deteriorated at the start of this year. Since July I've been unemployed, my medical issues are pretty much under control now ( fingers crossed), so I'm back to looking for work now.

Joe
Joe: I was unaware of your health issues.....I will keep my fingers crossed as well. Take care my friend!

I have been in the retail food business for the past 34 years. I started bagging groceries when I was in high school. Went through the ranks and trained in every position of the retail grocery industry. Went to college right after high school and then quit after a couple of years, thinking that I would just take a short break, save some money and go back to finish my degree. Seems like the years flashed by and the next time I looked, my life had fast forward 10 years and I had a wife a 2 children. For those of you that have not ever worked in a retail setting, the hours or horrible and for a guy with a young family it was especially tough. I decided that I needed to change the direction of career path, so I went back to school and finished my degree. I immediately got out of the retail side and went to work for the wholesale side of the business. I now work for one of the largest co-op wholesale grocery warehouses in the midwest. We operate and supply 2000 stores in a 13 state area. I have a specialized corporate position of having the sole responsibility of doing the schematic merchandising layouts for all of our 6 divisions. So the next time you go to one of our stores and can't find something or wonder who's bright idea it was to place something in a particular position, you can point the finger at me.

Happy Holidays!

My turn. This week, I'm on vacation and and am not doing a thing. Normally I am a high speed interstate freight relocation engineer (truck driver) for a small company specializing in "green" forest product manipulation. I, however, comprise the entire metals division and specialty equipment section. In the past I have been a warehouseman, a deep water sailor (USN), a taxi driver, a construction rigger (dismantling and demolition), a garbage man, garbage truck driver (both residential and containers), a pizza cook (I once cooked a "specialty" pie for Hank Williams Jr.), a custom glass beveler and shop manager, multiple machine operator in a bindery, a welder, industrial coatings applicator and pressure tester for line distribution transformers. I also tried paying the bills making original music for a number of years. I think that's enough for now.

Wow! A lot of retired folks....don't I wish! Well, no I wish I had more time, I love my job. I'm a part-time professor at Foothill College, teaching Music Technology classes. What's Music Technology? Well, it includes recording arts, audio and video production, all sorts of classes on modern pop music and music business I'm planning on writing some classes soon, right now I teach all sorts of music business classes and pop music classes. I'm also a teacher assistant in all the recording arts classes and the Pro Tools certification classes. That's my main gig. In my "free" time, I'm recording people and helping them make demos for colleges, jobs, etc. I'm hoping to get time to get back to my main interest, audio for video and TV. I compose as well. I taught private flute and piano lessons for 33 years, but have recently "retired" from that job when the job thinned to nothing. I do love to teach when students are eager to learn.
