So now we have 3 Mikes with TG !!!!

Please make Welcome to Mike Mullins our latest staff teacher addition to TG, and a great addition too...we have a lot planned with Mike,(and our new teacher this year) and you may have seen him starting to pop into the forum here or their (there) so I thought I had better let you know who he is..Please make him feel really welcome..

He will have some new forum categories to patrol soon, and you will see him pop up on video soon..

Here is a short Bio for you all to consume...Welcome Mike...

Mike Mullins is a native of Redwood City CA and grew up listening to music from the 60’s folk boom, along with a smattering of Alan Sherman. When the Beatles hit the states, the die was cast, and nine-year-old Mike’s interest in guitar mushroomed into an obsession. After a largely unsuccessful foray into the world of rock and roll (armed with a $57 Kent solid body electric and an amp that routinely emitted wisps of acrid-smelling smoke), Mike discovered the acoustic guitar through the records of John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and later, the mainstream sounds of CSNY and James Taylor. In 1969, he met future Totallyguitars founder Neil Hogan at summer camp, and the two became fast friends and formed a strong musical alliance lasting for a decade until Mike relocated toSanta Barbara. At this time, Mike discovered Bluegrass music and flatpicked guitar through his brother Tim, a fine banjo and dobro player. He took up mandolin in 1974, after being inspired by the playing of Bill Griffin (now his current Cache Valley Drifter musical colleague), as well as by the revolutionary style of David Grisman. Eventually Mike became a well-established cog in the diverseSanta Barbara musical scene and found his skills in demand as a local studio artist and “hired gun”. During this time he developed his passion for vintage musical instruments, particularly well-worn Martin guitars and Gibson mandolins. In 1984, Mike joined forces with Ventura CA fiddle luminary Phil Salazar, recording three albums, two of them for the Chicago-based folk label Flying Fish Records. In 1990, he co-founded the Acousticats with Phil Salazar and Cache Valley Drifter alumnus Cyrus Clarke, coming to a parting of the ways to join the newly-reformed “beyond bluegrass” ensemble Cache Valley Drifters in 1993. Mike has been filling the guitar chair with the Drifters since that time. Aside from numerous festival and concert appearances nationwide and overseas, Mike has appeared on over one hundred recordings and performed with such luminaries as David Grisman, Doc Watson, John McCuen, Chris Hillman, Chris Thile and world-renowned concert violinist Gilles Apap. He is currently at work on his own long-procrastinated solo project. Mike lives in Carpinteria CA with his wife Laura. They have a son Tim (also a guitar player), now in college. In addition to a busy music schedule, Mike works a day job in software development and testing.

Mike is especially pleased to have rekindled his long friendship with Neil Hogan, and to be joining the faculty of Totallyguitars.com as a guest columnist. His primary focus will be vintage acoustic guitars and mandolin family instruments from a historical and tonal standpoint. He’ll also be teaching a few tunes in the bargain. Mike hopes that you’ll find his barnacle-encrusted skills informative, entertaining and amusing.

Welcome Mike,
And please share any recommendations you have regarding the local music scene. M and I regularly visit SB; it would be great to hear something interesting while we're there.
