Where would you go?

Thinking about the idea of a guitar camp made me think of traveling again. I know some folks here have done a lot of travel, others very little but all can play this game.

Where would you like to visit in the World? I know that work, time, commitments, money (just a small issue) all get in the way of saying "oh to hell with it all", packing a bag and heading for the nearest airport, but if you could, where would you go?

Secondly, is there somewhere else you would consider living?

Me first. Right now I have a burning desire to go back to the USA. Something (with respect I do like you guys) I didn't expect to have. Reason being that when I travel I like to experience a very different culture to my home, and in the US, although people talk kinda funny and there are MILLIONS more of them, and everyone says "have a nice day" and "oh excuse me" a lot, it's not DIFFERENT enough for me. Wow, what a long winded dude I am! Anyway, I guess I feel I have some people I would kinda like to meet now. So the USA it is for me.

For the second question, I've lived abroad. But I would sure like to go live in Italy for a couple years.

What about y'all?

Hi Tovo
I to have been thinking how good the guitar camp would be.
firstly the same as you ime afraid, been to the states twice florida both times, second time was a timeshare my late mother had,and at 17years old and a bit more freedom than staying at a hotel was fantastic loved every minute of that holiday, but this time would be Las Vegas as a keen poker player i would love to go there and have a game,

Secondly Australia,i love the Australian accent, and there friendly scense of humour,i have a friend that emigrated there with his 5 kids,(all boys 2 sets of twins and only 3years between them lol).but yes i love Scotland and would find it hard to leave but Australia is the lpace that i would take the plunge for.

but lets take the guitar camp first and see what happens hahaha

Hi Tony,
I have traveled a bit for work a few years ago. They've sent me to Singapore, Korea, Austria, Germany, England. I have seen the different cultures, but unfortunately I couldn't experience it all because that work thing kept getting in the way. I have been to Hawaii a couple times for our anniversaries, does that count? I really enjoyed Austria so I might want to go there for a while.

Tony,

I want to go everywhere once. Then I'll decide.

I've always been a student of Architecture, and I know that there are buildings in Europe, for example, that are many times older than anything here in the States. Especially Alaska, which is very new.(relatively speaking).

Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden would be some that I'd like to see first.

Tony:

Interesting question......

Where would I go if money and time were not limits for me?....... Well, to be honest, my first choice would be into space. Maybe a visit to the ISS for a few days. Not very exotic I know, but what an experience. Just once, I would love to look upon the Earth from space with my own eyes. I think it would be spectacular. Oh, the Amalfi Coast in Italy would be very high on that list as well.

As far as living abroad, have not thought about that too much. I would need to visit a few places before forming an opinion on that one. If it was any kind of socialist or communist place, you could strike it off of the list right away...... :) :)

Loving these questions my friend. It is nice to learn more about all the great folks here in TGville..... :)

Well my wife ran a travel agency for quite a few years and we went all over the globe for vacation purposes to experience different cultures. After traveling to some very interesting countries, small and big towns we realized that we missed out on all of wonderful things in our home state of Wisconsin and the rest of the US. Sconce we got the fitfth wheel six years ago we have had a awesome time traveling the US to see things like the largest ball of twine, corn palace etc... It is amazing the people you meet out on the road. I guess Im saying that I love where Im at but If I had to choose it would be Hawaii !!

Interesting question Tony, now I traveled a wee bit in my younger days mostly Europe and the Med, latterly Singapore and a few stopovers in the US.

But...

What amazes me though is the number of people that don't even know their own country that well. I can personally testify to that as on my first return visit to Scotland with my first wife I decided to take a road trip round Scotland and heck I went to places I previously didn't know existed, then to top things off a good few years later on another trip home to Scotland with Jill, I decided, as she'd never seen Scotland before to do a similar trip; well heck I again went and saw so many interesting places I had no clues about. Since I came to NZ in the early 80's I have traveled extensively around the country and frequently put NZ born friends to shame with my knowledge of the country, both geographically and historically. So before you guys jump on planes check out your homeland first! Anyway if you own a Taylor, flying is not a good idea especially if you fly United Airlines lol.

Back to your question though, I would like to spend more time in and around the Med, the country, the various Islands, the culture the food is all to my liking and the history as well so much of what we are today started in the civilizations around the Med.

My Wife being an avid tropical fish enthusiast would head off to Africa though to check out Malawi, Lake Malawi or Lake Nyasa as it is also called famed for amazing cichlid fish.

Fun question Tony , I would love to visit your country and New Zealand ( and I will) because I heard very nice comments from friends who visited and because it is the farthest point from where I live.

I really enjoy reading about history. I am reading about the Roman empire right now. I hope to be able to visit Italy not as the standard tourist but as (for lack of a better term) a historian covering what the Roman have built, the art, the areas of great events in their clash with other groups. The benefit to visit these areas as a historian is that you do not need much to appreciate the specific area as you try to visualize what happenned.

Tony- you are going to hate me but I really want to go fly fishing in Kiwiland! With a big side trip to the land of Oz of course! Drinking copious quantities of good wine in both countries of course!

And I really NEED to get back to Germany, Austria and Switzerland (the German speaking countries) and to Scotland (where God only knows what they speak! LOL!). Ireland too!

Cheers! :cheer:

Some cool responses. The purpose of my thread was as MJ alluded to, I think it's good to learn a little about people's ambitions outside of learning Classical Gas.

A couple people said they aspire to travel their own country, and I agree. Many people ignore their own back yard and the wonders it holds. Particularly huge countries like Canada and the US, there is a lot to see. I have spent a lot of time in the "GAFA". That's the Great Australian F**k All....and it's HUGE.

Marc, Bear, NZ is a beautiful place. Well worth the visit. They have the advantage over us in the fly fishing stakes I would say but can't hold a candle to our new age wine. (They do have some very nice niche whites I must say).
