I've always thought that Harry Nilsson had a spectacular voice and that the Nilsson Schmilsson CD is one of the best recordings of all time. It's one of the great tragedies that Harry abused himself with liquor, drugs and cigarettes, and that at the end of his short, sad, tortured life he had turned into a bloated shell of what he once was. I still listen to his music and marvel at what an absolutely pure voice that could go anywhere and do anything he wanted it to.

Here's Harry playing a song for the BBC. Listen to what he can do with his voice:

Ya'll have me dusting off some vinyl.
Nilsson Schmilsson
Son of Schmilsson
Nilsson Sings Newman (Randy)
The Point (My daughter's Favorite as a child)

I always remember the story of Harry and John Lennon being kicked out of a Hollywood nightclub for heckling the Smothers Brothers.

I read that Tommy Smothers was quite disturbed by that event ... he had been part of the crowd in Lennon's hotel room at the recording of "Give Peace a Chance", singing his heart out as part of the chorus.

Just a few short years later, his hero (Lennon) was slurring him from the audience, with a used sanitary napkin he had taken from the ladies' room on top of his head. Nilsson was equally charming that night.

Some days it's just better to stay in bed ...

Well....the guitar part is easy enough.....the whole song is only one chord, C7. I don't think I've ever heard another song with only one chord. And I had never noticed this listening to this song before.

I think the Beatles' song "Tomorrow Never Knows" is only one chord (C).....
