Been following this closely on Ustream,

and the BOM.gov.au site http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR211.loop.shtml#skip.

This is real scary stuff. Hope people heed the evacuation warnings.

As I stand on court in a safe warm tennis centre and the emergency sirens (which get tested once a year, always at this time on a Wednesday) whale away outside, my thoughts are with the folks in Northern Aussie who are facing the real thing.... be safe all!

We call Queensland the Sunshine State. "Beautiful one day...perfect the next" is the State slogan. The last month or so has sorely tested Queenslanders, but they are a pretty tough bunch which I admire. Hell I even married one.

The cyclone hit last night with winds up to 290kmh. Early reports are that there has been widespread carnage. We can only hope that loss of life has been minimal.

Nature sure is angry right now.
