G'day Everyone,

Christchurch South Island was hit by a 6.3 Quake at 1251pm . They have unfortunately not got off as lightly as the last one in Sep last year. Multiple fatalities are being advised regularly. They have since had 3 - 4 aftershocks varying in magnitude from 4.5 to 5.5

My family in Christchurch, 3 kids and 2 Grand-kids are ok. One son reports his house is trashed with the brick chimney in the centre of the house collapsing through the roof and doing considerable damage.

One ward of the main hospital damaged and closed Police station evacuated, National State of Emergency been called, Airport closed in Christchurch.

Urban Rescue squads from around the country placed on standby, the NZ Military is being called in to help and Police are looking to draft in staff from the rest of the country also.

The city looks like it belongs in the Middle East.

I'll keep you posted.

Chas,

I just saw the photos and read some articles. It's unbelievable. I'm glad your family is OK. I hope that other TGers from NZ and their friends and families are so lucky. And all people in the area for that matter.

I guess this is a good time to pray to the universe or your deity that the death toll does not increase and that Christchurch has seen the last of this massive shock.

My thoughts go out to everyone effected.

Michele
