Chas,

I just saw the photos and read some articles. It's unbelievable. I'm glad your family is OK. I hope that other TGers from NZ and their friends and families are so lucky. And all people in the area for that matter.

I guess this is a good time to pray to the universe or your deity that the death toll does not increase and that Christchurch has seen the last of this massive shock.

My thoughts go out to everyone effected.

Michele
Thanks Michele, I haven't heard form any other NZ TG'er so hopefully they are all good. Regular contact with my daughter who is petrified , they have had 39 aftershocks varying in strength from 4.5 to 5.5. Latest broadcast from Police is they expect toll to rise, they are drafting in more Police USAR teams (150 from Aussie, good on ya guys) and Military will have over 1000 emergency personnel on ground by morning.

Glad to hear you and your family are safe for now Chas. Like Buddy mentioned, having been involved in a few big ones here in California, the quakes always make us uneasy and worried for anyone involved. I truly hope that they can get the people that are trapped out and attended to. Very sad. Our thoughts and best wishes are with all of you.

Overnight 120 people pulled out alive from the rubble. Still large numbers known to be trapped and large numbers still unaccounted for in the City.

Revised death toll is at 32 from Police and Civil defence, but knowing how the system works this means 32 identities confirmed, they don't include those yet to be identified. Speculation being reported in the media this could rise to 300

Heavy rain overnight hampered efforts making it uncomfortable for those displaced persons in emergency welfare sites around Christchurch. Airport opened for domestic and emergency flights. At least 12 more aftershocks overnight with 4 over 5.0 at shallow depths.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Tammy I am in the North Island of NZ and amongst us here we also have the feeling of helplessness. When I get to work today, it is likely they will want staff to relieve either to release specialists staff or to go to Christchurch to man cordons etc so if that happens I'll put my hand up as I'm sure many more will want help.
