Tori Amos gets my vote too, pretty yummy but again I keep getting the girl confused with the tune!

Personally, I do find witty girls (like Tina Fey ) really attractive ... but there again she is attractive so maybe Andy's right. And, That Don't Impress Me Much is pretty damn sexy and witty too... but mainly because it's Shania singing it! Some how, for me it pretty much does have to be a woman singing the song for me to feel it's sexy.
Hi Chris,

To each his/her own, I guess. But it's not really that way for me. I think the Robert Palmer video Chas posted ranks right up there, as do a lot of songs by Chris Isaak, Bryan Ferry, Leonard Cohen, and (surprised no one has mentioned) the Kings of Leon. I think it is possible to find these songs sexy regardless of one's orientation and without finding the singers themselves particularly attractive. I have to say that a lot of the suggestions on this thread, though they feature a lot of sexual inuendo and gyrating bodies, don't click my switch at all.

For the record, I didn't really think that Chris (or Mr. Hitchins) were being entirely serious or earnest when he/they said that women aren't as funny as men. However, it's a statement I've heard men (and some women) make many times in my life and I think many people DO feel that way. I can't argue that they can't feel that way, but I will say I don't agree, as I mentioned above, and that my experience is that women and men are often (generalization here) funny in a very different way. Thanks for the links to the article(s), Stuart! I'll for sure read them later today when I have more free time.

Agreed completely. In fact, that's part of what so fascinating for me about the Leonard Cohen video I posted. I have no idea what age he is in that video, but I think it's pretty fair to say he's OLD. Yet the song is (to me) so incredibly sexy that while he's singing it he is imbued with that. I thought it was curious that so many people mentioned finding a song sexy because they find a singer sexy, because for me, that's not even something that enters my mind. I don't really even care what the singer looks like. Josh Rouse, in the video I posted, looks like some sort of indie rock Huck Finn, but that doesn't change the fact that that song is, to me, incredibly sexy.

A good point here on visual as opposed to audio stimulation . . . . . . I took this thread to be looking for the sexiest song and not the sexiest music video. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe my mistake? Maybe another thread?

If you really mean the sexiest song, here are some more suggestions to listen to as candidates:

K D Lang – Acquiesce
K D Lang – I Want It All
K D Lang – Smoke Rings (actually, this may be the song to play after the sexiest one. HA!)
Billy Holliday – (any song by her . . . . . . . it’s not the song, it’s the voice!)
Lal Meri – Bad Things
Marilyn Monroe – Happy Birthday Mr. President

I could go on and on, but my vote would still be for the one in my first post (Eleni Mandell – Dangerous). As far as the gender question, I prefer listening to women to bring on the heat, however, when there are two wine glasses tipped over in front of the fire, it’s not all about what I prefer to listen to . . . . . . . . if my significant other prefers to hear Robert Palmer, Leonard Coen, or Mr. Rogers . . . . . . . guess who is getting more air play?

But that’s just my experience,

The question was definitely about the content and audio properties of the song Hydro and most of the attending videos above are not really relevant as the visuals created are usually from the song, singer or memories (or fantasies ) of them not from the vid. Maybe Chris Isaaks Wicked Game would be an exception as the video to that was pretty damn good... and I should have mentioned that song too after recently covering it! Your upturned wine glasses underline the point I was making, the sexy songs were mainly make by guys for women to swoon over.... and men get to enjoy the side effects ;-).

This has been a great thread Suzi. I'm still thinking about it and am just about as foggy on it as I was at the beginning. It's easy for me to come up with a romantic, a beautiful, a melancholy or rock-out song.... but sexy....hmmm and I'm still trying to work out why that is. I've mentioned the visuals (so hard to ignore for me!) but it is also a certain quality in the voice (as Hydro mentions) which jingle the bells. But I can think of more examples of someone just talking with a sexy voice than of a sexy song. Hmmm. I can't get away from the person.... "Its the singer, not the song".

Indeed Stuart, each to each his own, which is why I'm fascinated to hear the different takes on the matter here. Gyrating bodies doesn't do it for me either. In a world full of pornography, the erotic seems almost non existent. For me it would be just "something in the way she moves" or a way of looking or that certain quality in a voice or a little curl of the lip. There's a marvellous expression in German "Augen Aufschlag" (Augen = eyes; Aufschlag = a tennis service) which comes to mind.
I've seen Robert Palmer in concert close up and he had some good sounds (all his songs are aimed at slaying wome) but when you peek through the slick and cool and see the watery eyes and the devastation of the alcohol behind, you are left with the shady and shabby. Again the visual impression undermined the songs for me. BTW, here's Hitch on Hitch on Why Women Aren't Funny (below). For me, Tina Fey, Victoria Wood, Jennifer Saunders and many others are absolutely hilarious... as is Hitch when he says "So what has been the achievement of my essay? Its been to make sexier women try harder to amuse me. Well that was my whole plan from the start!"

I'd never heard anyone say that men were funnier than women before. Suzi's points how men and women use humour are interesting, I'd never thought about it.
Admit it though Suzi, you have a thing for older men! Leonard Cohen must have been about 96 in that video ;-). That's fine. Obviously there are mysterious secrets here which cannot be deciphered by the male mind. I've seen Christine Aguilera and Cher in concert. Both were fabulous. Fantastic singers and performers with amazing shows. Aguilera is just so over the top with the sexy stuff, it seems cheep and krass. And for all her charm and ability, Cher comes over as plastic. And then you remember she was singing on the background vocals of You've Lost That Lovin Feeling 40 years ago! Old plastic. So nothing sexy there whatever the songs.

Max- Good choice! And your choice lends credence to the belief that part of what makes a song sexy is the voice that's carrying it. Because, at least in my opinion, that song loses its sexiness when covered by Radiohead!

OUCH! I've never heard that version of the song and I never want to hear it again. Your definitely right, It's very much Carly's voice that makes this sexy.
