I can't say that I was familiar with him, but it was interesting to read of his challenges and his skills. Whenever someone of such talent and accomplishment passes I can't help but be saddened.

I first heard of Doc Watson when Neil put out the lesson on Doc's Guitar (which song I think Dermot might have posted a video of himself working on?). After that I checked out some of his stuff and really loved the old-timey sound of his music and voice. It's always sad to lose such a great artist, though he clearly lived a long and rewarding life!

Another legend bites the dust. Another great talent gone. At least he had a good long life if not free from tragedy.

RIP Doc. :(

I'm not sure the younger generation fully appreciates what Doc Watson did for folk and bluegrass music. It's almost impossible to even discuss either genre without mentioning Doc. An amazing guitarist made even more amazing because of his blindness since one year old.

With Scruggs and Flatt both gone, and now Doc, the bluegrass world is a lonelier place today. But Doc's influence will be felt for generations. I will miss the guy if only because of his version of Windy and Warm, my nemesis song!

Wherever Doc goes in the afterlife I hope he has his guitar and his eyesight. R.I.P. Doc.
