I've seen no fewer than seven transvestites performing this song in various karaoke bars. It lights them up, too.

This is possibly the most uplifting pop song ever and it certainly had an electrifying effect when it was released... as anyone who was around at the time will testify!

OMG!!! I know it was insane when they came to Australia too.

Has anyone invoked this sort of hysteria since? Quite like this?

A tune by Loudon Wainright III, and there are fine covers of it out there, too.
There's some cute poetry in it:
-------------------------------------------
The Swimming Song

This summer I went swimming,
This summer I might have drowned
But I held my breath and I kicked my feet
And I moved my arms around, I moved my arms around.

This summer I swam in the ocean,
And I swam in a swimming pool,
Salt my wounds, chlorine my eyes,
I'm a self-destructive fool, i'm a self-destructive fool.

This summer I did the backstroke
And you know that's not all
I did the breast stroke and the butterfly
And the old Australian crawl, the old Australian crawl.

This summer I swam in a public place
And a reservoir, to boot,
At the latter I was informal,
At the former I wore my suit, I wore my swimming suit.

This summer I did swan dives
And jackknifes for you all
And once when you weren't looking
I did a cannonball, I did a cannonball.

This summer I went swimming,
This summer I might have drowned
But I held my breath and I kicked my feet
And I moved my arms around, I moved my arms around.

Those are really some All Star performers. I've seen this before but it still amazes and delights me! Great choice! I remember the Scruggs and Flatt version from long ago. Bluegrass at it's absolute best. :cheer:

I have pondered this Chris since you posted. Not much music that I listen to it seems gives me the emotion of happiness. Mostly reflectiveness and melancholy. This piece of music actually uplifts me. I'm sure you know it.
