I want to add this to the 'conversation' if I may.

My phone rings, the land line and even at times my cell, a huge average of the time it's some damn sells rep (or computer generated voice) trying to sell me something I do not want. I buy something at Wal-Mart, Dick's Sporting Goods, Under Armor, E-Bay, etc, etc and get blasted with offers, most of the time I am on my e-mails I'm deleting crap. So yes, it's a part of life and yes, easy enough to opt out and just hit certain things and delete or send to 'block messages from.....'

Yet, TG survives because of the subscriptions, there is not one of us that wants to see it gone. Us "Old Timers/Founding Members" get one hell of a deal, the cost has NEVER gone up. That's just unheard of in today's world. It is still a business and several people make their living here. Maybe not their entire income, but a chunk of it. If that stops, so does the site!!

Most of us here 'stumbled upon' this wonderful place and it has become a part of our life's. Both in and of itself and outside of the site in the friends that we have made and care deeply for. I couldn't imagine not knowing many of you here and sharing our times together. Much less the ones we will experience here on out. It has become more of a 'family' and that is in large due to Neil and Nani and Vanessa.

Until late last year the only advertising TG had done was on YouTube and word of mouth. The advertising campaign now in place is in the early stages and not the only way to find the next group of folks who will join us. Give the group time and feedback so they can improve this and the site itself. Will not happen overnight, few good things do.

Most of you know I play Poker, did so anyways, both live and online. One thing I came to hate is the belittling of 'newbies' or newcomers. No new faces, no 'new' money. No 'new' money, no more game, either by the 'house' or the players. This site and the sister sites need to grow, in fact they MUST for all of us to continue to enjoy what we have come to expect.

For a bit of off the cuff humor

Problem with 'satire' is plainly, some folks just don't get it!! (per Ray Wiley Hubbard)
I totally understand there advertising but I also understand that folks are afraid of clicking links, etc, I often send people to this site and in special cases I give them a inside look

Neil

I do not welcome receiving spam. I have unsubscribed leaving this message:

"I am a member of Totally Guitars. However it's a shame Neil has allowed himself to participate in these marketing campaigns. I am not impressed and do not wish to receive them".

Are times that bad that we have to endure these "referrals"? Poor taste.

Thanks for the comments, it's definitely not our intention to "spam" anyone.

TG has been around for some time now and we're not the biggest & baddest guitar site on the block anymore, if we don't change then we will be phased out.

We LOVE all our members and know that there is no way we would be here without you guys, but there is also no way for us to grow and make things even better without making a few changes, everything we're doing is with the best intentions in mind and we know that these types of marketing techniques are not the most savory, but we'll never know whether or not they are effective without at least trying.

We hear your feedback (I work with Katherine daily and she shares your responses with me, that I share with Neil, Matt and the rest of the team behind the scenes), we're listening and we're gradually improving the process so that we can continue to offer you the quality content you know and love in an effective way that makes everyone happy.

Keep sharing your thoughts with us, we listen and we'll continue taking them into consideration as we grow, there are some big changes on the horizon and we want to make TG a site that is easy and fun to use for everyone. A site that continues to evoke that feeling of "this is the site I've been searching for", that I'm sure many of you have felt when you first stumbling upon us.

I hope this helps to shed some light on what's been happening behind the scenes and thank you everyone for your patience as we continue to grow TG into an even bigger and better community.

Well I am just a little member from Germany who bought some lessons a while ago. My english is not the best, so please excuse possible mistakes.

What I found out from this discussion is:

1.) I did not receive spam mail. I signed (double opt in)
2.) I am just target of a "(active or inactive)member marketing campaign"
3.) This campaign was started to help this company making better business (growing reaktivating members etc.) in ordner not to get played out by the competitors.

So far so ok... but do you think that sending soooooooooooo many mails could NOT have bad effects on your marketing?

I received advertisements from this server every single day the last 8 days!!!

Sorry to say that @ the Neil Hogan team but THIS IS SPAMMING!

Please stop that on my mail account and overthink your strategy - sometimes less is more ;-)

I hope you find a prosperous way without bugging old members. I wish you the best for that!

Willem, I've seen you ask several times about "When I'm 64." I don't know if I ever told you this, but I meant to: you can go to this page and buy the audio of Neil's Beatles tunes (and others), AND you can buy the tab for a number of tunes, including that one:

http://www.joplinandsweeney.com/store.html

You might still prefer a full lesson, but that should at least get you started. I worked on it for a couple of months sometime back, and had it fairly well down. I mean to get back to it soon -- it was beyond my skill level at the time, but I think I've caught up now. Still a challenging one, though!
