All this said, when I'm just messing around with barre chords, I often start in F#, without really thinking about it. No idea why. So it won't be lonely?

I can see why electric players could find it useful for those little ornaments like they show in Molly's Chambers (and countless other rock songs) and if you're playing lead and power chords, who cares what key you're in.

They do mention how it's the lowest note to bounce up to by a full step. You can get some good, guttural stuff out of that. It doesn't really make the case for it being the best key, or the "People's Key." And it's nice to be able to make use of open strings and harmonics when playing lead to power chords, and F# limits you there.

I never thought of that aspect, when I do listen to shredders they seem to love some screaming harmonics and pseudo-harmonics these days.
