What has become a 20 barre chord questions weekend continues.
Well, moving my thumb more behind the index finger seems to be working. Thanks for the advice. I still need to practice it a lot to make it feel normal. But, I'm confident I'll get there.
Next issue.
One of the songs I'm playing at the moment requires you to change between barre chord shapes quickly; specifically from E (and Em) shapes to A (Am) shapes. I find that when I play the bass on the A-shaped ones they often come out a bit dead. But, If I also move my index finger down so that the tip is on the 5th string, the bass rings clear. I know that this could just be a matter of adjusting my index finger so that the string doesn't fall in the knuckle crease. But, that doesn't seem to be the problem so much.
So my next question it this:
When you are changing between E barre shapes and A barre shapes, do you move your index finger across the strings too?
Poll attached. I'm sure that will be the last one (today at least).
Thanks
Michele
Added later - sorry the questions haven't come out in full. It should read as following:
- No; I only move my finger up and down the length of the string, not across it.
- Yes: I move my finger so the tip is on the appropriate bass string.
- Neither; If I move it, it is only fractionally to ensure that all the notes ring clearly.
- Whatever; I do whatever I do at the time.
