Look out! Bears digressing! Toss a sheet over him Quick! LOL

Rod,

I've been hacking at my guitar for about 2 years now, but I actually just started to actually learn to play the thing. I've been actually playing maybe 3 or 4 months. But, I'm already going after Classical Gas. I know its way over my head, but I figure by the time I learn it, I'll have learned enough to be able to really play.

So, just go for it man. Get your 'lectric out and try some of this stuff on it.

Nothing worse than a digressing Bear, maybe a hijacking Bear...
Andy I always got the impression you'd been playing a lot longer. Good on ya for trying Classical Gas, its a song I took on quite sometime ago , a slightly different version than the original and I actually didn't find it that difficult. Howeveer, I need the tab in front of me cos I never rememeber it all. I play it on my Electric also with a lot of reverb and it sounds quite cool. So previous comments about the stuff here being suitable for electric are correct to a degree. But some electric songs just don't sound the same on an acoustic like a lot of the lead riffs/solos by Pink Floyd or somne of Santanas leads. So a site along similar lines to this would be good to see.

Chas,

As little as I know, I was still way ahead of everyone that asked me to teach them. So I went out and bought Music Theory for dummies/idiots and tried to learn using some pretty poor resources I found here and there. When I read the blurbs on the package I drop it if it says anything about being a guitar 'god' in 6 weeks or less.

I can play basic open chords and do a couple of simple strum patterns. Enough to get by with some very simple versions of modern praise and worship songs at church. The people in the guitar group think I'm a pro. I keep telling them I'm only 1 or 2 lessons ahead of them. For some reason they don't agree.

Now I've joined up here and Neil is really working my fingers hard. If I keep on keeping on, I might actually be able to play something in the next decade or two....

Playing in a guitar group is a great way to keep on your toes. Especially if they expect more from you.. I found that out with my group at work... boy did it make me study just to ensure I kept ahead of them.

Neil- you can't fool us, you're an old head banger!! Your choice of songs has a distinctly electric feel even if you play them on an acoustic!! I'll bet while the kids are at softball practice you sneak into your studio, crank up your amp and bang out a few bars of Whole Lotta Love!! ROFL!!

I bet Neil's one of those guys that sat around working on songs to prove that you don't need to be plugged in to jam.

Haoli- I completely agree. Let's keep this site purely acoustic. I have other resources for my ax playing!
