Bear,

Good question. I think I'd like to be able to pick up the a guitar and be able to play a song I like and have it sound good! No matter if it is a lead or a rythem part. Playing in front of people would be great if I was good and I was not getting paid to play. That way no one can complaine about how bad I am. I can say, you got what you paid for!

I have some people that I work with that are good at playing, and I'd like to get to a point where I can be on par with them. Sometimes I think, at 43 (going to be 44 in October) that I started out way to late. But I have learned alot since I started, so who knows, maybe I will have a breakthroug soon and I will be the next fret board master!

Thanks for you input Bear, it is most welcome!
Eric- you are never too late to learn! Ever! There was a guy in TARGET who was just starting to play at 74 and was totally frustrated and having a devil of a time with barre chords.

I've played since I was 14 and I'm 55 but didn't really pick up the guitar again until five or six years ago. I keep saying this but it's so true. I've progressed more on my musical journey in the last 3 months belonging to TARGET than I have in the previous 30 years. It is amazing to me. But of course I'm spending 1-3 hours per night practicing! Not much on TV during the summer anyway!

I think the biggerst challenge for anyone just starting our is to deal with the frustration of slow progress at first. We all go through that. If you ever get there jump on the forum or PM me and we'll give you some support. That's the great thing about this forum.

You and me may never become all-star guitarists like Neil but that doesn't mean we can't have a ton of fun and even play in front of others (for free of course! LOL!).

Best wishes and PM me anytime you need help! Cheers! Rick

HI again Eric,

Good to see you starting at this time (age) , there are a lot of guys/gals here in the same position. So its a good place to be. Like the Teddy Bear says there are is a lot of support here in the forums. Don't mean to be picky but it would be best if you cut and paste your intro and put it in the category 'Please Introduce Yourself here' as most of us have done that, your intro will most likely get lost in this thread over the course of time whereas the Please Intro yourself lends itself to people checking it to find out about other members.

I hear what you've said about mastering chord changes, first is really learning the shapes so you don't have to think too much about that aspect, then the changes come in, Neil I am sure has short videos on that topic, what I did was start quite simple repetitive changes between two chords I think i did C and G from memory, also once you've got that down the fluidity in a lot of songs comes from releasing the strings with the left hand (right in your case your a lefty right ? lol)on the up stroke simultaneously whilst moving to the next chord, Neil explains that in a vid too
