Capoing; How high is it reasonable to go before you should transpose the piece into a different key?

Thanks for the advice. And so it seems that the consensus is 5 practically and 7 at the utmost. Interesting that it coincides with the harmonics.

Thanks Wilem - I do that, but I have such a limited range that I find myself switching octaves too often. I do it in 'House of the rising sun' for example.
