I have often found the metronome incapable of keeping the correct timing I am in!!

To answer your question on this, it's most likely not a 'tuning' thing, rather a 'tone' setting for the metronome and is using 440 as that benchmark. IOW - when the metronome is saying NOTE= E3, that would by the sound or pitch the metronome would sound in reference to 440Hz being A4. That would be my guess any-old-ways.
I don't fully understand what you are saying here.
I do think it's a tuning Pitch / Note and varying the Pitch / Note does not change the sound of the metronome.
The 440khz Pitch can be varied 415,438,439,440,441,442,443,444,445,446 Khz.

A4 does the 4 refer to the octave?
Rephrased .... A2 what does the 2 refer to?

Personally, I use Guitar Pro so much now, I use the tempo of GP as my 'metronome'.
I have GP too, but haven't used it much for playing along with, that's not to say I won't at some time in the future.

So Wiley, can you suggest why they would have chosen these odd rhythms? 3,5 and 7.
I think the rhythm 7 is showing percussion marks in the centre and not rests.
Are 3,5 and 7 popular rhythms?
