When do you draw the line and stop relying on the metronome.
If it's over used is it possible to be in perfect time and sound mechanical lacking music feel, or is this a different issue.
Thanks for answering my question Neil.

That was an incredible video Neil. A real find indeed. Thanks for posting the link to it.

I see it’s part of the Acoustic Snap Shot section but gawd knows I’d never be able to find it if it were not for you pointing it out. There are a lot of gems in the (oops, an acronym for Acoustic Snap Shot = not a good idea) :-) there that are pretty hard to find. It would be nice if they were indexed in some way … or am I missing something? The Neil & Laurence Juber Finale 2003 is six pages back at this point and other than scrolling through each long page one wouldn’t know what is there.

Sorry for steering this thread off-topic but I had to comment on what an excellent performance that was.

Very cool video Neil. I've seen this before, must have been when I first joined, but definately worth seeing again. :)

Neil

Thanks for posting such an awesome performance, mind boggling.

Well if Mr Juber and Mr Hogan promote the use of a Metronome,

Metronome it is, for sure.

I have often found the metronome incapable of keeping the correct timing I am in!!

To answer your question on this, it's most likely not a 'tuning' thing, rather a 'tone' setting for the metronome and is using 440 as that benchmark. IOW - when the metronome is saying NOTE= E3, that would by the sound or pitch the metronome would sound in reference to 440Hz being A4. That would be my guess any-old-ways.
I don't fully understand what you are saying here.
I do think it's a tuning Pitch / Note and varying the Pitch / Note does not change the sound of the metronome.
The 440khz Pitch can be varied 415,438,439,440,441,442,443,444,445,446 Khz.

A4 does the 4 refer to the octave?
Rephrased .... A2 what does the 2 refer to?

Personally, I use Guitar Pro so much now, I use the tempo of GP as my 'metronome'.
I have GP too, but haven't used it much for playing along with, that's not to say I won't at some time in the future.

So Wiley, can you suggest why they would have chosen these odd rhythms? 3,5 and 7.
I think the rhythm 7 is showing percussion marks in the centre and not rests.
Are 3,5 and 7 popular rhythms?

Hi Dermot..i think you know it! A4 is the A in the fourth octave piano wise,,on guitar it is the first string 5 fret(this is the right pitch with the A4 on piano). Image

Hi Dermot, C4 is middle C as shown, the 4th C from the left as I understand it, so A4 is two white keys to the left of middle C, that makes it the fourth A from the left, so that would be in the fourth Octave on this diagram. If it has appeared, the whole keyboard should be numbered and it should all make sense.

Edit

Every 12 keys is an octave.
