An example of a not real Christmas song; All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. Very cute, but not really what Christmas is about.
Most Christian based Christmas songs are actually non-denominational (with the obvious exception of many Catholic hymms).
Christmas songs please?
Before you two launch into a lengthy mind meld about the meaning of Christmas remember that Christmas was originally a pagan holiday and had nothing to do with any faith, denomination, sect, inclination, proposition, type of guitar or strings, capo location or anything else. It was only when the early Christians couldn't control the pagans that they decided to join in the fun!!!
So, go knock yourselves out on what constitutes a true Christmas song!! Ho ! Ho ! Ho !

We will have to agree to disagree Rick. While I know what you think you're talking about, there is actually a lot of mis-information mixed in there. Christmas is actually a compilation of a few holidays that all appeared around that time of year. For various reasons, the Pope decided that all of them would be lumped into one and re-christened 'Christmas'. The day is wrong for Jesus's birthday, but its also wrong for all the other holidays as well. But because of its origins, it's still more of a Christian day than any of the other pagan religions.
The whole story is quite a few pages with names, dates and places, but I think we can skip all of that.
And by the way, 'Christmas' actually means 'Mass for Christ'. Even more confusing.

The Pope may have named it but the Catholics hijacked it from various pagan rituals and celebrations of the Winter Solstice (again pagan). The date for Christmas had no special meaning to the Romans but was close to the winter solstice when the pagans celebrated several sun gods. The Romans decided the worship of sun gods and the yearly change to an ascending sun was symbolic of the birth of Christ.
So like I said, the Christmas we celebrate today is really a complete concoction and the ultimate case of religious expedience. It's a great symbol but it's historical significance is suspect! If I'm not mistaken the New Testament doesn't even mention a date for Christ's birth and December 25 wasn't even suggested until the 4th Century!! :cheer:
