I love that song and enjoyed your video. I don't have anything to add to what has already been said in terms of suggestions for improvement. Nice first vid. I'd suggest posting an update in a month or so to demonstrate what improvements you have made in both video/audio technique as well as playing the song. Great first vid.

Right hand is really good. Going up and down with the beat just as Neil teaches.

Like Chas says the angle of the guitar is very tilted. Mine is tilted in the same way but not at such an angle. It will be interesting if Neil comments on this.

I think the sound is good. I find it hard to get a good tone when the chords go right up the neck.

I've got this song on my todo list now.

Which guitar from your extensive collection is that one.
I was using my Willy Porter Signature Model, & the other 2 models I have also play very well up in the upper registers without losing tone and sound quality. Part of it is they have been set up by my Luthier to be as close to "true" as possible. It really has a lot of ringout and sustain. I received some good suggestions i.e. use a lighter pick, place the microphone further away, all things I'd like to try for my next vid. I wasn't strumming hard but I sounded a little loud to me. Thanks for your comments. Gary

Jay, thanks for your comments. I would like to try doing another attempt at that song now that I see many things I would change and compare the difference. I would also like to try playing my Guild w/ Indian Rosewood Side & Back and Spruce Top, also a bone nut and saddle, because it has a mellower tone compared to the one I was playing. Gary.

That was your Guild you were playing on Gary, right. Nice sound! The headstock is distinctive too I think. What songs have you got up your sleeve for us now you've cracked the posting technicalities (Al's great isn't he!).

Good job Gary well done. Its been said about the mic being a bit close I think moving it back a bit might be good. And how do you manage with the body of the guitar angled like that , I mean the bottom sticking forward so the whole thing is angled, doesn't this make you have to stretch your left hand even further round the neck?. I tend to hold the body of the guitar flatter against my body, see my avatar.

What a good idea having Neil playing along via the ear buds, no better metronome than Neil

Congrats on gettin one up here keep em coming.

regards

Chas

Chas, that is my biggest problem. I have a very short torso due to scoliosis from polio at age 6 which makes even the smaller body guitars hard to get in a position where it more straight up & down, making it difficult to get good left hand position. I bought a "Neck up" item a TG'r suggested she uses. It has suction cups on the bottom attached to leather and keeps the bottom from slipping down your leg and getting flatter. I tried it on the couch but I'll have to see if it helps setting in my W/C next video. But you nailed my biggest problem I have playing an acoustic guitar, it's not so bad w/ an electric. Thanks for your help. Maybe with the whole group giving some comments I'll be able to work through some of these obstacles. Gary

That was the Willy Porter Signature Model. It has a lot of volume & sustain for an acoustic/electric, I'll have to use a lighter pick & place the mic further away next video. Thx Gary.

Gary:

Nice work - I liked the ease in which you made your way up and down the fret board. I've been working on this song on and off....you've got me back to the on mode! Great video, looking forward to more!

Cheers!

Fred

I was playing my Willy Porter Signature Series w/ the Guild Crest. I think my Guild CV-1C which has Indian Rosewood Back & Sides and Spruce Top, it also has bone Saddle and Nut, might be a little more mellow sounding for that song, I also have a Guild CO-2C which has Maple Side & Back with a Red Spruce (Adarondach)sp Top which gives a really mellow tone similar to Engelmann Spruce. I think I'll enjoy the relief of finding and buying a videocam and learning how to convert the files so YouTube would upload my video & how to use the videocam etc. Maybe in a few weeks I'll get an itch to focus on another song to video for TG. Go for it Fred, I'd like to hear your video sometime in the future when you are comfortable with playing Harvest Moon. Good luck & keep at it. Gary

Gary,

Welcome to the club! You did good, real good.

I hope you had as much fun with this as I have. I 'd like to make to make a really detailed post about your video, but I can't. Your performance was great, your sound was awesome, what else can I say? Oh yeah, when we can we see the next one?

Great job, buddy. Six months ago did you think you would be a video rock star?
