Thanks for the suggestion Chas, but I really couldn't bear it. My mum had them for a while and they needed to be back filled often, looked horrible and wrecked her nails. You could always use artificial nails till your own grow. I've read articles where some professional guitarists have to do that. You can't leave them though as apparently your own nails don't grow as strong under an artificial one. I'm kinda lucky my nails are well as tough as nails lol...

I tried a thumb pick again this afternoon. I've got one that's too long and one that's too short and they both feel too rigid. So I think I'll scout around for some that are a bit different and then give them another go. Lots of guitarist use them and Tommy Emmanuel swears by them, so I guess I can't bad mouth them and avoid them forever.
Willem, I'm not sure what you're referring to. The fake nails that Chas suggested? Or maybe the temporary ones?It realy helps!!! after a time!!!

Michele, my friend didn't really want everyone to know that he was wearing nail polish either!
That is why the clear acrylic worked so well, it just looks like his nails are buffed and not polished. Your secret is safe with us.
