Hi Neil,
Does it really matter if I hold the pick slightly different too how you showed us on your tutorials.
I am still a beginner after 2 years of constant practice and when I hold the pick, my index finger is pointing straight down and the pick resting on the side with my thumb. So the top of the pick is half way between my joint and bottom of my index finger.
I have tried it hooking the index finger in with it in the joint part but I find it uncomfortable, is it o.k too carry on using my method.
By the way I am finding your site a breath of fresh air and believe me I have tried all of the others but yours is the best and very refreshing with good original teaching methods.
Keep it up.

The way I showed to hold a pick should really be looked at as a guideline, not the only solution. The most important thing is to find a way that works for you. The key elements are- to prevent it from spinning, by having as much contact as possible with the sides of your thumb and finger, not the tips, to hold it as loosely as practical to soften the sound of strumming, and to drag it across the strings, meaning angle it up for downstrokes and down for upstrokes.
