Hi Neil,

I just joined, primarily because of your videos on Youtube. You had two videos of songs that I have partially learned to play and wanted to really nail them. In your videos of Harvest Moon and Here Comes the Sun you promised that the Target program would have complete lessons soon. Those videos were made months ago, and I sort of feel that I have been a victim of false advertising because I have looked everywhere on your site and I don't find them. I don't find "Complete" finger picking lessons for either one, just a short video on part of Here Comes the Sun and nothing (not even the Youtube video) of Harvest Moon.

So this is disappointing, it looks like there is some excellent content, and I will stick with you for a few months to see how I like it, but I recommend that you fix problems like these as they tarnish an otherwise great looking teaching concept.

First off, welcome to the TARGET program! You'll find some great people here who will go out of their way to help you get better. I'm sure after you've been here awhile you will find that this program will greatly exceed your expectations.

Many of us that have been here from the beginning will take very strong exception to phrases like "false advertising". This site and the TARGET prgram are a work in progress. The whole concept is evolving rapidly as new songs and features are added almost daily. I challenge anyone to find a site that provides this much content for this price.

But you need to become involved. Neil absolutely listens to his membership. There was a song he was working on recently (I think it was Old Man) that many members had asked for and as more members requested it he moved ot to the top of the list to get it finished sooner. As we speak he's almost done with Harvest although I have seen no requests for Harvest Moon.

Since Neil is a huge Neil Young fan and so are you apparently speak up and make your voice heard. Be patient and participate in the forums and blogs and I'll bet you will become a very happy customer and better guitarist as many of us have become!

Happy playin'

There has recently been added a new lesson for Here Comes the Sun as a finger picking song, which is different than the strum/melody version in the youtube video. There is a link to it in a recent Blog. Or find it in the Beetles section.
It's a very nice arrangement of the song.

dpolley- Neil just announced in the TARGET forum that Harvest Moon is in production now. Apparently, he didn't realize that Harvest and Harvest Moon were different songs!

So it looks like both of your songs will be done very soon! :-)

Happy playin!

Mark,

Thanks for the heads-up on Here Comes the Sun...that video wasn't there yesterday, so I guess it pays to put in requests for songs. That lesson must have been sitting in the out basket and my mild complaint may have focused some attention on getting it published on the site.

I probably wouldn't have looked for it again for a month, so Thanks again.

Glad I could help.

Neil gets many lesson requests and gets them done as he can. Each takes days or weeks to create and become uploaded video lessons.
I expect he was already working on it before your post.
We usually don't hear what's next unless it's really being currently worked on.

False advertising ??..Them's fighting words..

We are so focused on giving value..that this kind of post is somewhat troubling.

We show you what songs are there..and we have added songs every month...

We only launched Target 2 months ago...with the songs that we advertised we were launching with, and we have consistently added..If you don't feel like you get value from the 60 + lessons and the webinars and the ...oh you get the point..

Thx for the other replies appreciate you folk..

Anybody else having challenges with what is in Target ...please read the letter..

We are going to be closing it soon to new members..those in lock their price ...and their membership..

Thx all

Hey Matt,

Why don't you just go out and watch the videos that were put on youtube 8 and 9 months ago. Then put yourself in my shoes as a brand new target member (about 20 minutes at the time) who cannot find the exact two things that were big influences on joining. All of the OTHER great content doesn't apply or affect the fact that these two videos strongly suggest that these two songs will be on the site soon.....and they were not...after nine months!!!! I like Neil, and I enjoy the site, but you are missing the point.....people will be disappointed just like I was by those circumstances and if I was in charge of this business I would have someone review all of the many videos on youtube that promise things that haven't yet been delivered and remove those videos. It is natural for everyone to be going full steam adding new content and improving the site and lose track of what has been done in the past. It is natural, but not necessarily good for business. Take my advice...I have been there, don't argue with customers, especially those trying to help. It is very easy to have a myopic viewpoint when you are working your butt off to make something successful and someone points out what you consider to be an insignificant detail. It isn't insignificant if even one customer has a problem with it! Run your business with that attitude and you WILL be successful.

dpolley- You agreed to plunk down $20/month for two songs? And then you accuse these guys of false advertising and not listening to the customer, who in your case is always right? And then you want to advise them on their business model?

Bro, I've owned several multi-million dollar businesses and I can assure you that customers that came at me that heavy handed didn't get as much respect from me as they thought they deserved.

You said to Matt that they missed the point but I suggest it was you that missed the whole concept. So what if it took six months or nine months to get a song or two done? They are getting them done now, maybe even in front of some songs I wanted. This is a brand new site and a totally new concept. Geez, cut these guys some slack before you accuse them (almost) of stealing your money.

These guys have been so fair that they don't require a set-length commitment. Most business models would advocate locking in the customer as soon (and as long) as possible. But here we are free to come and go as we please. Obviously, many of us are quite happy because they are getting ready to close the program, at least temporarily.

I don't mean to get cross-threaded with you but I feel you are being really unfair to these guys. This is a start-up business and in my view they have delivered on each and every one of their promises. You, as a paying customer, have the right to complain about anything you want but your comments are over the top in my view.

I hope you will reconsider your strong approach and allow Neil and Matt the time to build this program to where we all want to be. TARGET is going to be great and I hope our patience is rewarded.

Rick

hi everyone,

this is an interesting topic. to a small extent i can partially understand dpolley's point. i came to the totally guitars site after seeing neil's teaser video for classical gas last year well before the debut of the target program. once i came to the site i understood what neil was doing. so i waited for the full classical gas lesson. target was launched with a great set of lessons but not with classical gas. eventually neil did get to this song and has created a truely stellar lesson for it.

the point is in the very beginning when i saw the youtube video i did expect to see the lesson on totally guitars immediately. but once i got to the site i understood what the site was all about and no longer had those expectations because i realized those songs were in the queue. in addition, when you consider the high quality of the lessons it’s easy to understand that these lessons require a great deal of time to put together and certainly do not go up overnight.

maybe a quick and dirty solution to prevent any misunderstanding or false expectations is to put a list of the available target lessons on the open portion of the site. this way perspective target members can see exactly what is available before they sign up.

just my 2 cents. let me know what you think.
