Hey Neil,

I'm having an issue with anchoring while I'm playing leads. Is there any way to get over this without an intense amount of practice? It doesn't seem to hinder my abilities, but I'm sure that you could give me an example of it doing so further down the road. Oh yeah, I'm looking for a good tech in the bay area to re fret my tele at a reasonable price. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Dale

Dale- I've tried hard to break a very old habit of anchoring but then I've seen several educational DVD's recently where they say that anchoring is just fine. I anchor because I feel like it increases my accuracy but I suspect it's just training wheels!

It's probably another of those, "if it feels good do it" things!!

Hi Welcome Dale

Big problem for me too.
It would take me a year of constant practice to anchor a finger or 2.
I know I'm bad but unless Neil says I must learn It then...
While I wright this Im thinking of Day Tripper Im currently working on and struggling to hit the right strings, with more practice I know I'll get them 95% of the time.lol

Guys,

There are times to anchor and times not to anchor (a time to be born...).

Fingerpicking - never
Strumming - not usually
Picking a single line riff or lead - almost always. See the Don't Fear The Reaper video.

Thought I would get into trouble with that,
Looks as if I've got some extra practice coming ( detention )

This is something I never really considered and actually had to go and play a few things to see what I do lol... But I don't anchor at all really, I know I used to when i played some blues stuff but not now ..

Wow Humble me
I went and tried it with Day tripper and amazing I'm already up to 90%
Guess that's why Neil is our Teacher/inspiration.
Thanks Neil
