Hi All, any tips out there for learning to create interesting sounds and melodies from scales, i have learned the major and minor scales and pentatonics but when I try to create a lead they all sound the same. I feel I am stuck in the scales and have a hard time creating the melodies.

I would suggest maybe moving between the scale patterns, adding Hammer Ons Pull Offs and Bends to the notes. Maybe find some popular jam tracks and improvise around them. In the free lesson section I recall Neil did a thing with Blues scales, he played in a certain key and we had to improvise the Blues Scale round it. Neil also discusses the scale patterns which is worth checking out. NOt necesarrily melodies more lead riffs solos etc..

Try sitting down and just mixing up the notes in the scale. You might have already done this, but sometimes it can take a bit longer. Also, try and play leads to some backing tracks. This is the best way to learn it. Record what you do and listen to it later. Maybe a couple of days later. Keep some notes so you know what you did. Sooner or later you will hear yourself making music and then it will hit you SLAM! I'M MAKING MUSIC!
