Is the 3rd and the 6th chords always minor in a key?
Or is it the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th ?

It is 2nd, 3rd and 6th if you are in a Major key. If you are in a minor key, it would be 1st, 4th and 5th (double check that, I could be wrong). Is the 3rd and the 6th chords always minor in a key?

MJ, that is exactly correct. Think of it this way. Since the relative minor is the the sixth degree in the major scale, the 1 chord in a minor scale starts at the 6th of the major scale and then after it reaches the 7th it wraps back around to the beginning.AndyT wrote:It is 2nd, 3rd and 6th if you are in a Major key.
