I have read tablature for years. Apparently I need clarification on the markings (lines) under the numbers they are either single lines or darker upside down tables. I know understanding these symbols would greatly improve my playing of the intro to Ripple. I am making progress but i know I am missing something by not understanding these symbols. Thanks for your great lessons. I hope to get the nerve to upload something in the near future. I think the marks have to do with the strum/ down or up strokes, but I needs a bit of clarification. Any help will be appreciated.

I don't really understand your question. What do you mean by the "lines under the numbers they are either single lines or darker upside down tables." The lines that the numbers are drawn on represent the six strings of the guitar. The bottom line is the Low E and the top line is the high E. Is that what you mean? I think probably not....

I mean the lines under the measures. Thanks for responding.

These are timing indications.

The single lines represents a quarter note.
The upside down table represents two eighth notes.

If you see what looks like an L - that is one eighth note.

Not sure if that will tell you what you need to know

thank you for all your responses, that should help. Neil- how do I know which are down strokes and which are upstrokes.

Hi Ed,

Can I draw your attention to two groups that are there specifically to assist with TAB and TAB programmes. Check em out a lot of info is there or will be to answer all these TAB queries. UNfortunatley we can't post some types of File on the site which could have explanations of TAB by using arrows pointing to various aspects as that would make life so much easier.
