Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Right-hand question

Neil,
Been working on Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and have a question on the right hand technique. The thumb-thumb-index-middle right hand picking you recommend was unusual for me (the two thumb strokes, that is). I've been working it that way, but finding it a bit awkward as I have to "think" to keep my thumb doing the double-strokes. I decided to try it thumb-index-middle-ring, and it seemed to be much easier for me and my timing instantly improved. Any reason this is an inferior method to pick this one?
Thanks....

(BTW, hooked on the site! I'm learning and progressing at a much faster clip than my usual plodding pace. Looking forward to more theory/scales/solo'ing training which I hear is coming.)

Hi, well i think it is because they are both base notes so you wanna get those with your tumb cause you always do that in fingerpicking, so i think its better to get used to the thumb doing more and more work cause you will use it alot more in more complex songs like windy and warm, but this is of cource just my oppinion and you should proboly wait for neil to answere this aswell ;) i would :)

Hi rix and Pineapple, nice to see you on the forums. I had a similar issue with Scarborough Fair. I had the picking down fine with T, R, M, I,R, M not playing the 2nd base not but by using my index. Hmm now I'm changing to T, R, I,T M, I, because I see and feel it makes sense. Anchors the idea of moving between base notes and the rest of the picking.

Hey rlrix1 and pineappletrain, you guys slipped under the radar but we caught you! A big welcome to the TARGET program; we're really glad to have you with us! Good first post and answer! Thats what this site does so well. Someone has a question or problem and another member jumps in with a solution. Then Neil, confirms that what the member suggested is correct. That's pretty powerful stuff!

I don't want to completely hijack your thread so could I ask you both to slide over to the Please Introduce Yourself thread and tell us something about yourself? Where you live, how old you are, your musical tastes, what level of player you consider yourself. that kind of thing. It helps all of us get to know you better and it's painless, I promise!

Again welcome and I'm sure you will have many more welcomes on the other thread!

Good luck with your guitar learning and cheers! :cheer:
