Neil,

Love the Tull lesson - hope to see more. I am having a great time working on Aqualung but have one question. Since the riff is not capo'd but the verse is, how does one incorporate the riff and verse while doing the song solo? I tried going straight into the verse uncapo'd but it just doesn't sound right. Am I just missing something? Any suggestions?

Regards,

Mshrad

Just play the riff with the capo at 3 because you never go lower than that on the riff. Try it and you will see. Just do not count the capo as the nut during the riff.

Actually, you do drop below the 3rd fret, in the last measure of the riff. You hit the 2nd fret on strings 4 and 5. In the "thirds" variation, you hit the first fret.

I started to practice with a bar chord instead of the capo. So when it shows a D or C using the capo at the 3rd fret, I do a bar chord at the 3rd fret with a D shape or C shape. It may not be elegant but it helps practicing those bar chord shapes you rarely do.
