Hello my friends, I Have been trying to grow my nails for a couple of months and just when they get close to being good one or two break and chip and then I am back to short nails. Anyone have any tips for keeping them strong and prevent splitting and breaking. Thanks Lou

Drink milk. Use clear nail polish. Don't go bowling with Michele.

I have to say I'm struggling with the nail issue myself. Between my hands on job, general klutziness, and the dodgeball league, my nails are taking a hit.

Does that nail polish thing really work? Because to me, a clear coat of varnish diamondifying your nails sounds like an urban legend. I'm getting desperate though, so maybe I'll try it.

Thanks Lou, for asking the question :)

Adding a coat of 'nail strengthener' helps protect and harden your nails. It won't make them grow any thicker, but it's a good start.

I am blessed with strong finger nails when my health is OK. But, if you are not, one thing to do is to just keep them shorter. Finger picking with flesh and a little bit a of nails sounds good too.

Try adding more calcium to your diet too. Even jelly lollies (translation from Aussie -sweets, candies) like snakes (one of my favourites) can actually help your nails too, as they have gelatine in them.

I haven't tried the nail polish thing. Luckily I don't need to - having to maintain the nail polish would just be another chore to me. Maintaining your nail shape and length takes long enough. But, some people apparently swear by it.

Good luck! :)
