Okay, someone has to say it: I've watched the number of new posts dwindle down to where, on any given day, there are about 10 percent of the new posts there were only weeks ago.

Why? What's going on? There are more people using the site than ever. So why so few posts? Have we exhausted all the topics? Are we sick of each other? Just tired of posting?

Without pointing the finger at anyone, why are we posting far less often than we used to?

Hey Dennis: We seem to go through spells like this from time to time. Could be all the content that has been flowing out the last couple of weeks.... :)

As for myself, work has been crazy and my boys are getting ready for the end of the school year. We have had all sorts of plays, carnivals, luncheons, etc. I check in and read everything, but don't have as much time as I would like right now.... B)

Dennis, I think it might have to do with the avalanche of new songs. I am so busy working on songs that I do not have as much questioning.

Not being myself a generator of new threads, because I am not very patient, if I have a question I will search the web. However I like to put my grain of salt here in there when a thread comes up.

I have notice a couple time that if a new person on the forum ask a question, someone load the link to the old discussion on the same topic and the thread dies. I think that when a question is asked or a subject is offered on an already covered topic, we should ignore the past and look at it with a fresh approach as it might lead in a new direction It would also encourage new people to participate without having the concern of steering old subjects .

Actually mate the post count has risen the last week over the previous week, and it is just an ebb and flow thing..less than one month ago a couple of people posted that they had gone away for two days and come back and were overwhelmed by how much activity their is..so it is always in flux..and new folk typically take longer to ease into asking questions and feeling their way around..plus I think we have so much stuff here, especially for newbies it can be a touch overwhelming at first..and maybe you are all sick of each other  , all of the older starters communicate in other ways too, so we all gotta make an effort now and then to keep the momentum so as we can sustain the environment long term..

Ah Dennis, you can always be relied on to put into words what many are thinking. A good topic. I sure have noticed it as well. I think MJ is right, it does happen from time to time, but this dry spell has been a protracted one. There sure have been a LOT of new tunes to occupy people's time, and perhaps some old ground being covered as Marc pointed out, but I do like his suggested approach.

I would sure like to see some effort put into new threads. I can't believe we have exhausted the topic...it's a big one.

When active member's go quiet it's certainly noticed. An online forum is a community, the only difference being (rather obviously) that few of us get the opportunity to actually meet face to face. Nevertheless, I enjoy many of the "virtual" friendships I have developed here at TG, and from my point of view I rarely stay away for long. Being quite the insomniac I often (like right now) find myself here at weird hours of the night.

I actually think things are picking up a bit lately. Let's see.

the irony is of course not lost on me that more people will post here than say on the new guys video he just uploaded..

or create a new post..

In fact if you are reading this..ask yourself the question, how many NEW threads have I created?..(responding to people is great but new threads drive people to come back)

If you have not created one for a while then start one, ask for help, or post some knowledge, or share something..this is contribution part that all of you must do to sustain any ecosystem that want and have fed off...

If you are reading this and respond..then you frankly have enough to time to create something new..so go to it..

Reality is very different,..some people are glass half full folks..

We have a thriving forum, and community that goes through ebbs and flows...

It takes effort to write something here..be it a post that suggests an improvement to TG (and there is a certain way to do that folks..) or to create a new topic , be it a question, or a video upload, familiarity also is it play, when Dennis mentioned are we sick of each other..to a certain extent, it is based on the law of familiarity, we think we know enough about each other..or only post amongst ourselves , yet we need to remember that as each new person comes on board the environment needs to represent the very thing that kept you coming back..ie information, and friendship and common bonds..

I monitor this stuff closely and frankly we have seen a total uptick on all fronts..be it here or Youtube or Facebook..and in the community a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes..

What I would like to suggest is that we all contribute new threads one a week, to pay it forward..that is put back in what we have gotten out weekly...so much to create a new thread on...every week I see important or relevant or interesting news that we could discuss or introduce here..that of course means we have to make an effort to do that..

I appreciate Dennis for bringing it up , we all must keep the pot boiling..

Thx to everyone who has posted something new..

The to everyone who has responded to a new thread..

I think we have a great thing going here and all of you are part of that ..

Dennis,

I'm kind of surprised at the tone of your post. I have been watching the Forum a lot lately and have been encouraged by many of the new posts, especially the one about thumbnails, which I will get involved with soon.

I am also finishing up a few projects all designed to keep great stuff coming everybody's way and then will have time to become more visible and engaged soon. I hope everybody has been enjoying all the new stuff, and I also think some of that is what is keeping many people busy.

I also keep seeing more posts by newer members, which is very encouraging. I have really enjoyed many of the new uploads for review, and will be getting time to reply to a few soon, so keep 'em coming.

Neil

...by the way, I have moved this thread to the Q&A section as I feel it is a better place for this discussion to continue.

... as for me, I'm in the middle of working 21 days in a row and the nature of my work keeps me away from my laptop a lot. But I'm still checking in, collaborating, posting, singing, working on great new lessons, viewing great new student videos from friends. The forum does ebb and flow but at a pretty high level of activity. When I consider all the personal mail and Facebook and Youtube contact I have with TG friends, I'm astounded at the fullness of the guitar-related life that TG brings to me every time I fire up my laptop. Which one of us was it who said he may have to give up work to have enough time for everything happening on TG? Too right! :-)

PS: Check out the new World Cup thread.....

Dennis,

Good topic. This is the second time I have sensed this over the past year or so. I agree that there are a bunch more members adding topics which is great. Just comes and goes in cycles. I will say for me, however, is that I've been catching up with all the procrastinating I've done at work because I've been on the forums   . Summer's just about here and I've been busy doing work in the yard as well. The Celtics are in the Finals so that has taken some time that I used to go on the forums at night. We've got facebook (I had spent little time there until recently because of all the TG updates), YouTube, a freaking ton of lessons, people are putting up alot of great video's for review, ugh............ It takes all my grey matter just to keep up. Not to mention that I've been a bit psycho on my practice routine lately. I hope to post a new one later today if I get some peace and quiet around here. Just my .02 worth. Always good to see a thread from you. I try never to miss one of those.
