Hello All,

I decided to revisit the above song and checked out some GL videos on You Tube (couple of links below).

If there are any fans of this song out there maybe you could give me a couple of tips on the following.

1) At the end of the pre-intro he plays a higher chord than the normal one on the 5th fret. Any idea what it is?

2) During the two chord 'percussive bit' he plays some picking on the D blah blah blah chord before going into the C chord. Anybody make it out? Also, sometimes there are two bass picks...is this E and then A or what?

3) In Neil's lesson there are some chords that he strums before going into the slow rake and E/F hammer ons. GL seems to do picking here and the chords look slightly different. Again, any ideas?

Sorry if this all seems obvious but my ears are rubbish.

Cheers,
Mark

Hey Mark! Great question! I'm a huge GL/ELP fan and I play this song all the time but I can't help you here. GL never plays any song the same way twice and I gave up trying to emulate him note for note long ago.

I've been working on the lead for FTB that Neil doesn't demonstrate but not sure how I will fit in to an acoustic version.

The only luck I've had with GL's stuff is just know that he usually stays in the same key and likes to play his chords in different shapes and positions. Then if you mess around with the song in a scale pattern around the 5th fret for example you can come up with some cool stuff although it may not be exactly what GL is playing on a particular version.

Good luck on this great song. It's worth learning!

BTW- welcome to the TARGET program! Have you introduced yourself yet? If you have I may have missed it. We really like getting to know each other!

Cheers! :cheer:
