Neil- you recently turned me on to Blackmore's Night and I'm most grateful. Ritchie Blackmore has always been a favorite of mine and Candice Night, while no Annie Haslam, is certainly easy on the ears (and eyes). I can't believe I missed them for so many years but they never got any FM radio play around here so I guess our paths never crossed.

I'm hooked on the sound of Renaissance-era music done by contemporary artists. I know you studied baroque and renaissance music and became proficient with it.

My question to you is, what gives this music it's tell-tale sound? Is is alternate tunings like DADGAD? Or, I suspect, is it more modal? I know many prog rock bands have played with it frequently with varying results.

Thanks for the education!

Rick:

Welcome to the club... B)

Far cry from the days of Deep Purple and Rainbow, but very enjoyable. Ritchie has always been a fan of this style and finally went with it.
