neil,

i don't know if this has been posted before. if so, just post a link to the thread and that would be great.

i was wondering what software program you were using for your video and audio recording and uploads as well as hardware. it seems all your videos are very high quality and i never see and delays between the audio and video or any video jerkiness i've often seen with some uploads.

were you plugging into a board or just miking the guitar and hooking up the mike to the board as well as a mike for vocals.please include computer card info is possible as well as mike and soundboard or video card makes and models. i'd really like to look into audio and video uploading. also curious on brand and model of webcam.

again if you've covered this any link would be appreciated. i didn't see a post on it but maybe it already has been covered. thanks in advance.

Tommy,

My set up and process is pretty simple as it has to be for efficiency. My main camera is a Sony SR-12, but also use a Canon HF M30 when I need dual shots.I just get audio from the camera and am happy enough with the quality to not go to greater lengths for better audio. This does allow for more background noise but really minimizes processing time as my goal is to get the information out, not to make a feature film.

I use Final Cut Pro on a Mac to edit everything. It takes the video/audio from the camera and, after editing (really just setting in and out points and adding titles to the clips) exports them to HD Quicktime movies (.mov). There is more encoding done after I upload them to TG as the files are massive and they need to be converted to various web-friendly formats for different devices (iPad etc.).

Basically all I use is a good quality camera, a Mac, and Final Cut, no microphone, board, or card necessary. I'm not sure how it would best be done with other systems but this works for me.

I hope that helps a bit...

Neil

neil,

that was a great reply. i was expecting it to be much more complicated. thank you very much. i am really enjoying your site and your lessons are top notch. by the way i know this isn;t the section for this but i noticed the elton songs that you have transcribed for guitar but i can't believe you haven't thought about captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy. in my opinion that would be the ultimate elton john guitar song and really the only one i recall to showcase a guitar as the main instrument. and it would teach us a lot as it sounds like there are some pretty cool licks in there. thanks again for all the help with the auidio video.
