In the fly on the wall with Fred you said on the end ''pattern 6 is the starting point for pentatonic patterns'' so for learning the patterns we must always start on pattern 6 in any key??? The lesson with Fred was in the key of G,,so when I want to learn the patterns in the key of C or D etc,,then I have to start on pattern 6?

Wiley thanks,,messing up he,,noooo..I go and read your post 1000,,,times...'cos Neil said the more you see and hear the more ..........!!

I do understand how it works and put it in boxes and numbering those boxes,,only I want to know if we go practice those boxes must we start on or with box 6 in what ever key we practice ,,,Neil used the key of G and I know box 6 is on the nut,,and in the key of C box 6 is on the 5 fret (I think there's your capo, the virtual one!!) so if we start to learn(practicing) the pentatonic Cmaj scale the first thing we practice is that 6 box/pattern ???

Willem- very good advice you've received. One important element that I didn't see mentioned is to know where the root notes are for any of the 5 patterns. I often say them out loud when I play them. If you are playing the G pentatonic scale you must know where every G note is up and down the scale/neck. The root notes are the building blocks for the scales and ultimately for soloing.

I don't get too hung up on Pattern 6. It is just one pattern that moves around the neck depending on what key you are playing in. If you think about all the patterns are connected to each other and when you get to the 112th fret the patterns start over gain, you've got it made!!

Good luck my friend!
