Neil
This is a great lesson.
I like the way you've broken it down measure by measure.
Tuned and capo'd at the 2nd fret as explained in Lesson Part 2.
I'm trying to understand the notes that make up the G chord in verse 1
A G chord = 1,3,5, = GBD
Checking with my electronic tuner
The String notes I have at the 7th fret (fret9) are S6=A, S5 = E, s4=A , S2 = A, S1=C#
The String note at Fret 9 (fret11) ... S3 = E
How do these notes make a G Chord?
The chord I'm playing sounds like what your playing.

Dermot,
Good question and I'm sure somebody will weigh in on this soon. Keep working on it, the answer is in the lesson.

Oh Dermot Can I have a guess
Bobbing up and down in my seat with my arm up
It is a guess thou'
It might be a G but with a capo 2 frets up it's transposed
i.e if held with no capo in the open position would it be a G?

Well done Rick..... thanks
I couldn't hear Neils answer for listening to it.
He does refer to it in the lesson as
It's just our open G Chord in this....
..... I didn't pick up on that..... open G... standard tuning ?
So with the capo on in this tuning ..... G chord is at the 5th Fret ( 7th fret no Capo).
The notes for G = GBD transposing to ABE.
A major = AC#E
C# is lowered 1 Step to B.... to the second step of the A major scale.
So I assume with the Capo on it's real name at the 9th fret is..... ?
making the chord ......
ASus2
?
Edit
Remind me please.... the capo is a confusing thing :S .....
In simple terms...when using a capo what is the best way to think things through without getting in knots?
When ever the capo comes up it always turns into a mind boggle!
Well for me that is.
Rephrased
What should I think about and what should I discard when using a capo?
It's easy to over think and add to the confusion.
I think!

:S

Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
:silly: :silly: :silly: ,,,,Don't forget to play he,,,I don't mean a special one,,just what you want to play,,, B) B)

Hi Dermot
Soz didn't know it was tuned open but it works the same
Easiest way to think about it is,
Once the capo is on forget about it, it's now your new open position
Hence why Neil called it a G
But keep in the back of your mind its not really just in case you need to play with someone else, ? Piano.
Of course I got all this from Neil in the first place lol
Credit where its due

Hello Rick
Once the capo is on forget about it, it's now your new open position
That's the one I need to think about Rick.
The rest is Black Magic !
