Neil

I'm still uncertain I'm on track with your explanation.
Please explain a little further the following....

I'm still trying to work out where the F Major 7 comes from as the
Key of D has an F#m chord.
Key of G and D Mixolydian has a F# diminished

So where does F Major7 come from?

Dermot

You are getting closer but overlooking a very important mistake in the key/chord diagnosis. keep at it.

G Major has an F#, as does D Mixolydian (3rd degree)

Do modes have related keys, because the 6th degree of D Mixolydian is a B, but is that a relative minor, but modes are not scales !!! %%%**&&

B C D E F G A .... the fifth degree is an F .... which depending if the B is a key, the F could be F Major 7, but the 5th is normally a dominant 7th
that is if the B be a a key at all.

D Major has two sharps, F and C

To convert it to mixolydian, flatten the 7th from C# to C = D Mixolydian

Surrender !

You need to pay more attention to the correct sharps and flats in a key. F is in D minor, not D major.

Neil,
I'm not sure how you got to the Key of D minor.

Dminor follows the steps TSTTSTT, this give the scale degrees, Dm, E ,F ,G ,A ,Bb, C ,D.
Each degree can be harmonised as a 4 note 7th chords giving.

Dm7, Em7b5, FMajor7, Gm7, Am7, BbMajor7, C7 , but how did we get from D Mixolydian to Key of Dminor?

He didn't get into the key of D minor, just pointed out that F is in a Dm, not a D major..

Listen to the wrap up 15th of march again! :)

Don't forget Dermot, anything is possible in music, as long as it sounds right! ;)

Hello Vanessa

Thanks for showing an interest and pointing me back to the video.

I spent ages on this last week (sad, yep) trying to figure out the link to Key of Dm

Although, I've watched the video several times and don't quite read into Neils message.

I assume you are telling me any key goes.... a long as it sounds fine.

So Key of Dm is just a rogue key and F Major 7 sound sounds fine ... so it's used.

:S

I'm not really saying anything Dermot, the song goes as it goes and what Neil says is simple: 'The mode may be changing, from maybe mixolydian, to major, to even minor if the F-chord is part of it'.....

And why? Well ask Ray! :P
