Here Comes the Sun Opening

Maybe this is a silly question but on the opening D Chord in Here Comes the Sun, I strike the opening D-Open with my thumb and then when I go to strike the A (3rd String 2nd Fret) my thumb mutes the D. I have tried re-angling my hand for this not to happen and it just throws everything else off.

Suggestions??

Thanks!

Mark

Hi, Mark!

I saw your question yesterday when I didn't have a guitar in front of me. First, are you asking about Neil's fingerpicking version? If so, I just tried it out, and I think your thumb will immediately, slightly, mute that open D string. But since it's not a melody note, I don't think it matters. I've been working on this song for a while now and never noticed what you mentioned. But I see one that my thumb is hitting the D too, but since you're alternating bass notes so quickly that it's barely noticeable.

Does this sound like a logical explanation to everyone else?

Good luck, Mark, and keep working on it. You'll get a lot out of it.
