Hi Steve,
Thanks for the comments and suggestion. I just checked out Moonlight Shadow. I was very surprised to hear this type of pop song from Mike Oldfield, being a big fan of his first few albums, then even Songs Of Distant Earth. I do have Crisis and somehow it never got into medium rotation.
On the other hand, I am also a fan of Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention, and it reminds me a bit of their later, less traditional periods.
In any case, you are correct about the feel. I think many of my TG students could use this as an ear training project. And for a clue - you have the key (C#m or E), and it only uses four chords with a basic strumming pattern. Figure out the progression and get back to me.

That's a big pass! Good job.
One advantage to not using a capo is you get the power of the key of E, the beefiest open chord we have on the guitar. The C family at the 4th fret is a much gentler voicing. Sister Golden Hair is another example of one that is a bit easier to play in C at the 4th but you really lose the drive of E open in the chorus, using the E family for the B and A chords, at the 7th and 5th frets before the big landing on the open E.
