What's Going ON? - Now that autumn has officially arrived, I hope that
those of you living in places where there is a major change of the
colors are enjoying the show. This week we were flirting with
mid-summer temperatures here in Northern California. Read on to
hear about some of the exciting things going on here at
TotallyGuitars.

Songs Added To The TARGET Program - This week we rolled out another 3
songs for our TARGET members, two for our guitar players and one
for our ukulele players. At the beginning of the week we hit the
Campfire Series with Born On The Bayou by Creedence Clearwater
Revival. This classic John Fogerty tune almost qualifies as a
1-chord song. At least all the vocal parts are done over an E7
chord, although admittedly with a simple and very cool riff as the
foundation.

At the end of the week we added I'm Yours by Jason Mraz to the mix.
This is a fun, catchy song that my daughters have really enjoyed
singing along with around the house. The lesson presents the song
the way Jason was playing it in its early incarnations, meaning in
the key of A. Later recordings were done in the key of B, as he
started using a capo at the 2nd fret in order to sing it a little
higher. The strumming pattern is a little muted with a slight
Reggae feel.

On The Ukulele Front
We also added another lesson from our ukulele lady Michelle Kiba.
This lesson features her arrangement of the tune Dream A Little
Dream Of Me. The song was originally written and recorded in the
1930s but came back into prominence whet The Mamas & The Papas did
it in the late 60s. They were scrambling to keep the group together
but even this great song couldn't make that happen. Grab an ukulele
and give it a try!

The Video Competition -Our 1st Video Competition is coming to a
close at the end of the month, that's just a few days away. The
deadline is September 30, 2009 at midnight, California time. If you
are thinking about entering get on it now. Don't forget to load it
into our YouTube channel and link to it from the Forum category. If
you are not a TARGET member and would like to enter just load it
anywhere at YouTube and link it.

Competition: http://www.totallyguitars.com/forum?fun ... 3&id=10055

Don't forget, the competition is open to everybody and we have one
prize for the best entry from a TARGET member and another prize for
the winning entry from everybody else. The winning TARGET member
will be receiving a new Flip HD Recorder, and the winning
non-TARGET member will get a full year's access to the TARGET
Program. Of course, we are hoping that everybody is considering
joining the TARGET Program. http://www.totallyguitars.com/playguitar

TG Live!
By now, our TARGET members should be able to enjoy Episode 10 of TG
Live. Matt finally got off the road and joined me at TG Central. We
got around to answering all the questions we had received over the
past couple of weeks and talked a bit about the next few
competitions we are planning. I even managed to get in a little
practicing during the show. Check it out when you can.
Around The Campfire

TG Live 10: http://www.totallyguitars.com/target-ho ... rs-live-10

I hope everybody is still enjoying the Campfire Series. This week's
addition was of course, Born On The Bayou and there are not a lot
more of these under construction. Some of the upcoming songs will
include great songs for singing with kids, as well as a few
Christmas songs that we will probably start rolling out in early
November.

Get The Album
We are now making it as easy as possibly for our visitors and
students to find original copies of the songs presented in the
TARGET Program. We are setting up links from every song to Amazon
where you can buy the song, either the whole CD or single mp3s if
possible. This has given me a chance to dig through my old record
collection and give you a nice visual prop of what to look for.

The TG Forum
Some very interesting topics are getting a lot of attention on the
Forum lately. Here are a few excerpts.

Have You Regressed Lately? Since becoming a member and endeavoring
to adopt the methods being taught my playing has regressed. i.e. I
used to be (IMHO) play passable and sometimes good covers of songs.
Now its like starting again, I now play a combination of where I
was and where I hope I am going, and my playing is stilted, I find
it difficult to play a complete song. However, in the interim, my
playing seems to have gone slightly backwards. Has anyone else
experienced this?

Ask Neil
A recent Q&A

Chords To The Key Or ScaleHello, what chords do we (or can) use
when the song is in C?? i understand it on this moment like
this-------we have the scale C-D-E-F-G-A-B/ so we can use the
chords C-D-E-F-G-A-B????

Willem

From NeilWillem,

In order for a chord to be in the key, all the notes in the chord
must be in the key. So the notes in the chords in the key of C,
with their respective chords are

C = C-E-G = C Major
D = D-F-A = D Minor
E = E-G-B = E Minor
F = F-A-C = F Major
G = G-B-D = G Major
A = A-C-E = A Minor
B = B-D-F = B Diminished

Neil

There are a lot of other interesting questions and answers for our
TARGET members in the Ask Neil section. Check them out here.
