I thought I’d try to write some lyrics for my “pretty little doodle” upload (from a few weeks ago in the busking area).
Contrary to Chris and Tom and Buddy, I found song writing to be quite challenging - though I really enjoyed the process. Attempting this has given me a much greater respect for those who seem to be able to write without effort. A huge thanks to Chris and Michele for their lyrical guidance.
I didn’t bother to make a video for two reasons. First, trust me, you don’t want to see me singing. And second, I really wanted you all to focus on the song and not on me or my playing.
Comments/critiques are always welcome.
My dear old friend
it’s good to see you again
For it’s been a long long while
since I’ve seen your smile
Let’s stay and talk of things we’ve done
when our old hearts were young
We can dream about the things to come
while they are still unsung
We used to think that life was ours
we dreamed of golden stars
It’s sad to think that all those dreams
are gone in disbelief
But through my years I’ve been happy
and through my tears I’ve been blue
I know that I’ve been lucky
now where did life lead you?
The years have gone by
and here I lie
But life will go on
to see another dawn
My dear old friend
it’s good to see you again
For it’s been a long long while
since I’ve seen your smile
Please stay and talk of things we’ve done
and let us not pretend
You can dream about the things to come
my dear dear old friend
Dear, dear, old friend
my dear dear dear friend

Great job Daryl! Really makes me want to call up my closest friend, fly him to my home, drink a few beers together and catch up on old times...
Really liked your words you placed with the music. It came from ther heart...

That's a real Beatle-esque ending Daryl!
Daryl has already had all my feedback so it remains for me to point out what a great job Daryl did from start to finish. Its one thing to get a little chord progression or riff going, its another to see an idea through to full bloom and it takes quite a bit of tenacity to get through to recording it. Kudos for the originality and hard work!

Daryl:
I loved your lyrics and singing. Congrats on the final product. This little doodle has really taken on a life of it's own, and it is well deserved.
Thanks for adding to it, and sharing it with all of us.

Daryl,
My apologies for being away for so long. However this was outstanding. I really.... really liked the chord progression on this one. Lyrics were perfect for the music. Well done Daryl!!! As others have said, the ending was a nice surprise. Thanks for sharing. I hear ya about the writing lyrics. I've got some "songs" that I've been kicking around for the past year but just haven't sat down to work on the melody or lyrics. I should really do that some time.

Bart - Thank you. It's interesting the lyrics didn't start out with this "story". They morphed on me. It was pretty cool watching it happen. Time for another new one from you.
Tom - Thank you. It was GREAT fun. Challenging. But definitely fun.
Willem Thank you. I like it too. I'm glad you know the chord progression and tuning. I'd love to see you take a crack at playing it and at writing some lyrics. I can give you the names of some really great lyricists if you need help.
Chris - Thank you (for your comments and all your help). I really like the ending. I think it really drives home the point of my lyrics.
Michele - Thank you (for your comments and all your help too). Not quite sure about the "professional" part though. Yep, cool ending. And yep, pretty cool first song. I might have the bug. Ya never know.
Kev - Thank you. Why would you want to "sing like that"? You've got a way better voice than I do!
Jason - Thank you. I'd love to hear you write some lyrics to my doodle. Especially with your voice. Go for it!
Mark - Thank you. No apologies necessary. I've missed you around here. Glad you were able to stop by for a listen.
