Hi I'm Mark and I'm 44 (45 tomorrow) and from England.

I started my love/hate relationship with playing the guitar over 20 years ago.
I would say that I'm an intermediate guitar player.
What I play is very much determined by what I am able to play.
I definately can't sing a note and my attempts at lead/improvisation have always been poor.

Playing fingerpicking and picking out the melody has been a good solution for me.
It allows me to play something recognisable and means I don't have to sing.

I've never played live to an audience (unless you count a couple of strum alongs to a dunken rugby club).

I've been a member of target since the very start and I think it has definately improved my guitar playing. I think I have a better feel for the rhythm. now.
Hey Happy Birthday , a day early. For some reason I can't see the yesterday video. Probably has something to do with the firewall on my company server. I don't know how the expect me to communicate with all my TG buddies with them blocking my content all the time. It's like they expect me to do some work around here. LOL
Anyway I will take a look at it when I get home. I can echo all your comments, especially about learning chord/melody playing. It takes me a little longer to learn the tune, but it has been much more satisfying for me after I get the piece down.

Happy Playing!
Kevin

As far as discussing Rugby with Mark I think mention Jonah Lomu, World Cup 1995 and England Full Back Mike Catt, and the fact that Lomu scored 8 tries over his career against England and you might be met with silence lol

Irrespective of that it would be good to have someone around who follows the game, Mark we have a thread about Rugby in the off topic area, if you ever feel the need to discuss HOw to score tries and run over Full Backs post there lol

cheers

Chas

Hey, Mark! Where do you live in England?

Also, I think you are much better than Intermediate! That version of Yesterday was beautiful! :cheer:
I live in deepest Gloucestershire. A bit out in the sticks really.

Thanks for the kind words. I got a bit lucky with Yesterday. I recorded a few versions and the others all had a few bumb notes in them.

I've always found playing the guitar a real challenge and still do. I have far more weaknesses than strengths.
What I have had is a determination to eventually be able to play music and to keep going however long the road seems to be.
The funny things is I started off playing the guitar wanting to be Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix and have ended up more like Ralph McTell.

Ralph would be a great musician to emulate! A very underrated talent, at least in the USA. Hiring Fair is one of my favorite songs that I love to play along with Streets of London and a few others. Are you by chance a Fairport Convention fan?

Cheers! :cheer:

Hey Mark, that's quite funny. Streets of London is o.k.... just don't try playing it with your tongue! I was born next door, Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire. Chris

Yeah I like a bit of Ralph McTell. A long time ago I had a guitar teacher for a bit who was a big Ralph fan. The only things that I have retained that he taught me are a few McTell songs.

I think Streets of London is a great song. Sadly as relevent today as it was in the 70s.

I'm not a great Fairport convention fan. I like Meet on the ledge, sloth and one or two others.
I've been to their annual festival at Cropredy a few times.
