I'm "shurmo24", Bill from Columbus Ohio. I took lessons growing up and have got back into playing a couple years ago. I came across Neil on Youtube and decided to join. We are lucky to have his knowledge and website to improve our skills. I wish we had these tools (internet & youtube) back when I was learning. Times have changed! I'm in my 40's and my guitars have sat under my bed for years. It's been fun playing again and have accomplished more than I thought of so far. Neil does make it look so easy. I enjoy playing music from what I grew up with (now classic rock). I had played a couple years in the highschool jazz band and enjoyed learning jazz but haven't played that since then.

I posted my first student video "Black Water". I haven't fingerpicked and am learning since joining this website. I have a ways to go in this area but like the challenge. I really like to improve my understanding of scales and solo work too.

hey Shurmo,
yeah man! picking up the guitar after years lay off. Sounds like a familiar story. I saw your vid of Black Water. Nice job! It is coming along well, especially if this is one of your 1st fingerpicking songs! I am sure you will find that you will improve beyond what you imagined. This site rules! I gotta get that Black Water song down as well. I have been singing it while hiking with my girlfriend, she would laugh if I did not tell her I was learning it, then just busted it out! Good luck with your playing!
