In the 70s my family and I performed every Sunday in front of the congregation for church services. My brother and I both played guitars, my sister played a tambourine, and our father played a bass. My brother was the smart one, an actual musician, while I was the wild one (taught myself guitar by ear and trial and error since I never committed myself to learning to read music). I played in some talent shows and was told that I sounded kind of like James Taylor.

Later in college, I took a date out to eat at a Ground Round restaurant, and we listened to a couple play live music. After they finished their last set, we went up and told them how much we had enjoyed their performance. My date mentioned that I played guitar. and they invited me to play them something on his guitar. I asked them what they thought and he said, "That was commercial".. Would be nice to become good enough to be marketable. Technically I did play for a wedding and got paid for it, but I did not launch into a music career.

Life happened. Dust accumulated on the guitar's dust cover as I focused on raising family, supporting the family and supporting our country with a full career in the military reserves., Like others who have introduced themselves, I am approaching retirement and wanting to rekindle that passion for music. If I can get good enough, I would like to spend some of my golden years gigging at bars, restaurants, and what have you. But regardless, it is nice to be enjoying again how sweet it sounds when a guitar is responding the way it is meant to.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the story. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of getting guitar back in your life.
