New Artists Search

Hi Gang,

Every once in a while I bring something like this up and the time has come again. We are looking for some new artists who are moving up the charts who might have interesting songs that would make good lesson material. I'm feeling a little more stuck in the 70s than ever, maybe not a bad thing, but looking to branch out again. Part of this was inspired with writers like Sarah Jarosz, who Vanessa brought to our attention.

So, who else should we be listening to? Post some videos here and I look forward to checking back often.

Neil

I'll be looking forward to your responses as well! :)

Doing research for what is out there takes quite a bit of time, so indeed, I'll welcome any specific input as well. :)

There are worse things than being stuck in the 70's as far as music goes...... ;)

I have to admit that I don't follow too much main stream music (at least no the stuff that plays on all of the top 40 stations), so I miss some of the gems like Vanessa has been doing lately. These days, when I am not still stuck in the 70's/80's, I tend to enjoy the indie and post-modern stuff. Bands like Minus the Bear, Band of Horses, The Shins, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, Guster, Metric, and many others.

I have shared some Minus the Bear in the past, but this song is one of my favorites, and it has an acoustic version, which moy or may not lend itself to some cool techniques. It is called Pachuca Sunrise. Here are both versions, acoustic first.

How about digging deeper instead of wider?

I see you only have one Santana lesson, one Rod Stewart lesson, one Procol Harum lesson, and one Queen lesson. What about “Conquistador” or “Black Magic Woman” or “Bohemian Rhapsody”? Surely there are many more songs from these artists that would make great lessons. And there are only two Van Morrison lessons.

Just a thought.

I recently started getting into Jake Bugg's material ... it's like I fell into a well, there's so much of interest, especially for such a young artist (he's 20 !).
