Hi All!
I'm new to TG; joined the Target program about 2 weeks ago. I've been playing acoustic guitar for about 1 1/2 years. The guitar was originally bought for my husband, but when he realized that he didn't have the time needed to really learn to play, I picked it up and it has become "my" guitar since. The first year or so I just played a little each day, but this past new year my resolution was to try to play about one hour each day. For the most part, I've kept to it and have made a lot of progress since then. This site has been hugely helpful, and I'm looking forward to making more rapid progress in the next few months, thanks to all of the wonderful videos Neil has up here.
I'm 36, married, and have one daughter who's 7 years old. I listen to a lot of folk and country but also indie rock stuff.

Hi, my name is Bill. I'm 56 and have been playing since I was 12. I live just outside Dallas and NO, I am not a Dallas Cowboy fan. I have always loved music. Through the 1970s I was worked as a disc jockey/studio-transmitter engineer. I finally decide to hang up my lips in 1981, and focus just on engineering. (It pays much better) I have had the good fortune to design and build many radio and TV stations around the world.
More recently, I taught "Digital Electronics-Design and Applications" at one of the local universities for a couple of years. Currently I am one of the designers of a new Medium Wave Antenna for Broadcasting.
I am also patiently waiting for my two stepdaughters to crank out some grandchildren. I already have many plans on how I can spoil the future little 'nose-diggers'.
I play for my own enjoyment and I will tackle anything that catches my ear. I am likely to play 'Air On A G String' and then lay down the classical guitar and pick up the electric and go in to 'Purple Haze'. Needless to say, I don't do many LIVE performances.
I joined the TARGET program on the day it became available. (I strongly recommend
the program to any new members, and hurry before the price goes up)
The TARGET program has allowed me to correct some bad habits (only the ones that
relate to guitar) and re-learn some techniques I had forgotten. Neil Hogan is a very good teacher.
A couple people have complained about a few of the OLD songs in the TARGET program
and I have to say, "OLD??? I played 'em on the air when they were new!" :laugh:
The people here are the best!! I have learned so much from Rick, Andy, Chas, RichardK, Ric, Greg, Dale, etc. etc. etc. If your goal is to improve your guitar playing and/or your musical knowledge, you have came to the right place. See ya' in the Forum. Haoli

Thanks for the background!Been a member a few weeks but this is my first post here. Seems like a good place to start.
I'm 42, and live in Wichita, KS. I've owned a guitar since I was in college and would pick it up every couple of years with the intention of finally learning to play it. I was actually a music major in college, and have a masters in Bassoon performance, but guitar has been much more of a challenge for me than any of the wind instruments. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say, but it was Guitar Hero that finally kickstarted me into getting serious about guitar. I loved the game, but decided my time would be better spent learning a real instrument, vs. a plastic one. Since then, I've played through most of the Hal Leonard guitar books (vol. 1-3) and started taking lessons last October.
I was already starting to supplement my guitar instruction with stuff I would find online when I stumbled upon one of Neil's videos on youtube (intro to Rhiannon, in case anyone cares). Dinked around on the free site for a few days and decided to join. Glad I did. I really like the site and am already seeing improvement (I would classify myself as an intermediate player, for the record).
